Man Utd emerge as ‘feasible destination’ for ex-Premier League midfielder’s return to England, three more clubs interested

Manchester United have now reportedly emerged as a possible destination for one former Premier League midfielder amid Ruben Amorim’s desire to strengthen the key position.

Ruben Amorim has preferred to use Manuel Ugarte, who played under him at Sporting CP, in the heart of the Manchester United midfield alongside Kobbie Mainoo.

The 39-year-old Portuguese manager has also turned to Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen as midfield options since his arrival at Old Trafford in 2024.

However, Amorim could be left short in the United midfield amid the uncertainty around the futures of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen at the Red Devils.

Casemiro has featured sporadically for United in the 2024-25 campaign and the former Real Madrid star has been heavily linked with a move to Al Nassr.

Eriksen, meanwhile, has had limited playing time since Kobbie Mainoo’s emergence and the Danish midfielder is out of contract with United in the summer.

Man Utd linked with Juventus midfielder

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United are now believed to be ‘closely monitoring’ former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Douglas Luiz impressed during his spell at Aston Villa and the 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder left the Premier League club last summer.

Juventus signed the former Villa star in a reported £42.35m deal and Luiz has struggled to make a real impact at the Old Lady in his debut season.

The Brazil international has been reduced to nine Serie A appearances and only managed two starts, with Luiz’s spell being hit with an injury.

Luiz, who has made 13 appearances across all competitions in the current campaign, has not scored or registered a single assist for Juventus so far.

Man Utd are one of four clubs interested in Luiz

Fichajes now reports that Juventus summer signing Douglas Luiz could be loaned out after the January transfer window opened.

The publication claims that the Brazil midfielder is ‘seeking consistency’ and Luiz has struggled to achieve that under Juventus manager Thiago Motta.

United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Fulham have now all been linked with Luiz and Fichajes suggests that Juventus ‘may have had a change of heart’ on the player.

The Spanish outlet reports that the Serie A club were initially keen to keep hold of Luiz, who inked a deal with Juventus until 2029.

However, it is believed that Juventus would be ‘willing to consider a swap’ deal with United for Joshua Zirkzee, who has been heavily linked with a return to Italy.
