For a squad which is the second highest paid in the Premier League, 14th place at the start of 2025 is simply unacceptable.
Despite all the upheaval Manchester United have faced this season, the squad should not be anywhere near 14th in the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim’s squad is ranked as the second most expensive per week in wages in the entire league, behind only Manchester City.
- Manchester City – £3,882,000 per week
- Manchester United – £3,568,846 per week
- Arsenal – £3,310,500 per week
- Chelsea – £3,252,500 per week
With United’s wages so high, it is little surprise that PSR is becoming a serious problem.
Therefore, getting underperforming high earners off the wage bill would do wonders for United financially and if reports are to be believed, this is exactly what the club are now looking to do.

Manchester United trio set for January exit
In the United squad, as it happens, the big earners are the players letting the team down severely.
Mason Mount cannot stay fit, for example, Marcus Rashford is searching for an exit as Amorim seems to have his mind made up.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that three high earners in particular are expected to be on the exit list in January.
The transfer specialist took to X, reaffirming that Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are for sale in January. We can also now add Casemiro to this list according to the same post.
In order to make the necessary reinforcements in January, United need to sell first and Casemiro is available in case of a good offer in order to do so.
Wages United could save
- Casemiro – £350,000 per week
- Christian Eriksen – £150,000 per week
- Victor Lindelof – £120,000 per week
These three departing would free up £620,000-a-week on the wage budget – a figure which could near the one million mark should Rashford join the list.
Getting rid of these three would be genius from Jason Wilcox, while also barely affecting Amorim.
Ruben Amorim would hardly notice £620,000-a-week worth of players leaving
Such a vast amount of wages would put United under the £4m per week mark on wages and below both Arsenal and Chelsea.
It would have a massive impact on the way United can manoeuvre in the market this month, while really not impacting Amorim’s squad too much at all.
The disastrous midfield pairing of Casemiro and Eriksen are both secondary options. Therefore would be quite easily replaced, with Toby Collyer, Jayce Fitzgerald and Dan Gore all more than capable of providing depth.
In defence, Lindelof would also not really be a miss with Amorim looking reluctant to use him thus far. With the Swede likely the fifth choice, he would be easily replaced, with Godwill Kukonki already in the picture and Dan Armer a good shout to join him.
