Manchester United may need to invest in midfield if Christian Eriksen leaves at the end of the season.
The 32-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Manchester United and is set to become a free agent in the summer unless offered a new contract.
However, Eriksen has not been approached about a new deal by United’s leaders, who first want to assess whether he is part of Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans.
Since Ruben Amorim‘s arrival at United last week, there are multiple United stars facing uncertain futures, including Eriksen.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday morning that Christian Eriksen is “likely” to leave United at the end of the season with no contract offer in sight.

If the Danish international departs, United could soon be in the market for new midfielders.
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has exclusively told United in Focus that there are two targets already on United’s radar – Sverre Nypan and Chris Rigg.
Both central midfielders are only 17 years old but have showcased huge potential.
Manchester United have wanted Sverre Nypan for years and are now pursuing a deal for the young Norwegian midfielder.
Nypan has been described as a “generational talent” and someone who Ineos are keen to add to the youthful squad already at Old Trafford.
Bailey previously revealed that United are pushing hard to sign Rigg with scouts hailing him the “next Bryan Robson”.
A January deal might be more difficult for Rigg given that Sunderland want to keep hold of him, but with Eriksen leaving in the summer it could the ideal time for United to pounce.
Ruben Amorim is fantastic at developing young players
The transfer strategy under United’s new leadership has been clear – sign young, exciting players who can develop into superstars.
It was evident over the summer when United’s oldest signing was 26-year-old Noussair Mazraoui, while the likes of Leny Yoro, Chido Obi Martin and Sekou Kone were all signed as future stars.

Ineos are hopeful that Amorim can help to develop the younger players at the club – he certainly has a good track record. Amorim gave 27 Sporting players their debut during his time at the Portuguese club.
In Rigg and Nypan, United believe they have identified two potential world-class talents who can thrive in Amorim’s system.
