Manchester United’s race to sign Lewis Hall this summer has cooled lately, but Ineos could still be looking to do business with Newcastle.
After a deal for Lewis Hall was made out to be on the cards this summer, last week saw Manchester United’s interest refuted by reports, with Harry Amass instead perceived to be an option to reinforce the left-back position.
So, with United not really looking at Hall, the need to talk to Newcastle United dissipated for Ineos.
However, Hall isn’t the only player linked to making a North East to North West move.
What do you think of Man City spending £130 million on Elliot Anderson?
Will Anderson be a flop? Or will United regret not paying up?

Manchester United freshly linked with Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali update
While Hall isn’t currently being targeted, United still needs midfielders, and Newcastle just happens to have two of the best in the league.
Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali. Now, both have been linked with Old Trafford.
According to The Sun, firstly, there is the report that Arsenal are exploring a move for Newcastle United’s captain, Bruno Guimaraes.
Newcastle aren’t particularly keen to sell, but there is also the note that United admire Guimaraes, with the Geordies proven not to be immune to selling if a player wants the move, with Alexander Isak last summer.
United’s interest in Guimaraes was linked in Brazil months ago, but this is a fresh suggestion.
Then, Tonali has also got an update.
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards tweeted to explain that he is calm about the Guimaraes situation, stating he believes that the Brazilian actually wants a new contract.
He then moved on to Tonali, explaining that the Italian doesn’t want to join Tottenham, amid heavy links, and would prefer City or Arsenal – while his openness to United has long been reported, but not being mentioned here could imply he is off the table.
Hearing Spurs aren’t wanted by Tonali is a familiar story. Mateus Fernandes prefers to join United over the North London side, who are now serial relegation battlers.
Should Man Utd walk away from the Mateus Fernandes deal if West Ham refuse to lower their asking price? 🤔
West Ham are sticking to their £85m demands for Mateus Fernandes
Neither Guimaraes nor Tonali are first choice for United
In the event that either midfielder would actually be allowed to leave Newcastle, it is hard to see United queueing up to join a certain bidding war which would be toward the £100m mark.
Manchester City spending £130m on Elliot Anderson will have absolutely destroyed the market, raising every midfielder’s price by £10-15m immediately, making it likely undoable for United.
With this in mind, United might be best served simply paying West Ham’s Fernandes demands today instead of waiting, because their position is strengthening and they might even raise their price tag.
There isn’t much difference in quality between Anderson and Fernandes, with the Portuguese having the potential to overtake the City signing in the coming years.
£85m on Fernandes is suddenly looking better and better.
