Gary Neville thinks one ‘unbelievable’ Inter star would be a perfect signing for Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd

Manchester United invested in a left wing-back in January and may be tempted to move for a right-sided option this summer.

Manchester United’s appointment of Ruben Amorim meant transitioning to a 3-4-2-1 system.

United signed Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu in January, luring the Danish talent over from Lecce with a view to being Amorim’s left wing-back for years to come.

Dorgu has shown promise in the early stages of his United career, with Diogo Dalot featuring on the right side.

Amorim may want to add more competition for Dalot, though Amad could be viewed as a wing-back going forward.

Rio Ferdinand has suggested moving for Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen, but Gary Neville has another idea.

Gary Neville on Denzel Dumfries

Inter beat Barcelona in the Champions League this week, advancing to the final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Yann Sommer dazzled for Inter, but we saw another brilliant right wing-back display from Denzel Dumfries.

The Dutchman bagged two goals and one assist in the first leg against Barcelona, causing absolute havoc down the right flank.

Dumfries was at it again on Tuesday night, registering two more assists to send Inter through.

Barcelona just couldn’t handle Dumfries, with the 29-year-old proving to be one of Inter’s key men.

Speaking on Stick To Football, former United ace Neville suggested that Dumfries could be ideal for Amorim’s system.

Neville suggested Dumfries was ‘unbelievable’ against Barcelona and would be a perfect fit as a right wing-back in the Premier League.

“Do you know what I kept thinking, I was thinking with United playing with their back five and the wing-backs, I was thinking about that right wing-back Dumfries, for United,” said Neville.

“I’d like to see him in the Premier League. Dumfries, how good was he? Unbelievable. He’s so good, he’s so good,” he added.

United have been linked with Denzel Dumfries in the past

Dumfries has been on the United radar in years gone by.

Reports last summer suggested Dumfries wanted to sign for United – but only if fellow Dutchman Erik ten Hag stayed put.

Ten Hag did stay, but United chose to invest in other areas and Dumfries remained at Inter.

Dumfries was on Ten Hag’s wish list back in 2022, but United kept hold of both Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United moving for Dumfries this summer seems unlikely, with Ineos preferring to target younger players.

Dumfries is already 29 and United may not want to invest in a player of that age profile, despite his brilliant attributes as a wing-back.
