Rio Ferdinand shares four-man shopping list to turn Manchester United around, it could cost Ineos around £230m

Manchester United face a huge summer transfer window as Ruben Amorim seeks to strengthen his squad ahead a first full Premier League campaign.

Ruben Amorim became Manchester United boss in November, and results have yet to really convince his doubters.

United have shown flashes of becoming the team Amorim really wants, but it’s clear that he needs backing in the transfer market.

United need a number of signings this summer, but Ineos may not be able to provide Amorim with huge money.

Ineos announced fresh redundancies in February, and the club’s financial situation is far from ideal.

That isn’t stopping United fans from dreaming of big summer signings, though, and former defender Rio Ferdinand has now joined in.

Rio Ferdinand suggests four signings for Manchester United

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Ferdinand suggested four summer signings to turn United around.

A new striker was at the very top of Ferdinand’s wish list, with the former United defender suggesting that experience is needed.

Ferdinand doesn’t believe that having three developing strikers – Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee and Chido Obi – isn’t helping United as the trio don’t have anybody to learn from at Old Trafford.

Victor Osimhen is the man Ferdinand wants, believing that the Napoli striker is perfect for United.

Reports suggest that Osimhen is United’s top striker target this summer, and he is expected to leave Napoli on a permanent basis, having been on loan at Galatasaray.

Ferdinand also wants a midfielder to partner Manuel Ugarte, suggesting that Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is the man for the job.

Wolves star Matheus Cunha is Ferdinand’s choice to bring quality in the final third, occupying one of the number 10 roles in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Ferdinand believes that United need to invest in a quality right wing back too, suggesting that Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is the ideal man.

Frimpong has racked up 29 goals and 43 assists for Bayer Leverkusen, thriving as a wing back under Xabi Alonso – the exact role Ferdinand has in mind for him at United.

We can see the vision here.

It all sounds great, and the profiles make sense for how Amorim wants to play; there is just one problem.

The money needed to sign those four players would be huge and possibly the kind of money United can’t quite afford this summer.

Fabrizio Romano claims on YouTube that Osimhen has a €75million (£64million) release clause in his contract at Napoli.

Ferdinand suggested selling Garnacho to Napoli to offset the cost, but it would still be a considerable outlay.

Cunha has a £62million release clause in his Wolves deal, whilst reports claim that Frimpong can leave Leverkusen for £33million – again, thanks to a release clause.

The Daily Mail claim that Palace want £70million for Wharton – and even that feels conservative for a young, talented, English midfielder with years left on his deal.

Taking those valuations, United would need to spend around £230million before agent fees, signing-on fees and wages in order to make Ferdinand’s dream window come true.

We just can’t see that happening this summer, and a potential lack of European football may leave United struggling to attract such big-money additions.
