Ederson’s Man Utd transfer looked as good as done a few days ago, but it has gone radio silent since then, so Fabrizio Romano shared why.

The midfield rebuild at Old Trafford looked set to kick off with Ederson arriving from Atalanta for a fee of around £38m.

This very advanced deal made all the news in the last week or so before going radio silent in the last few days, prompting second thoughts from Man Utd fans.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared the latest on what’s happening with this deal, with a “something crazy” disclaimer.

Ederson to Man Utd transfer latest

On paper, Ederson is a pretty easy deal to make for a number of reasons.

His contract expires next summer, he is desperate to play for Man Utd, he fills a position of need, and he has been a long-term target.

That seemed to be the case when the developments happened rapidly, with fans expecting official confirmation well before the start of the window.

Now that there is no news for the last few days, Romano has shared that it is because Atalanta are going through a big upheaval.

He said [via his YouTube channel]: “What’s happening is very technical now. Atalanta have announced Cristiano Giuntoli will be their new sporting director, and Sarri will be the new manager.

“Those are going to be the people in charge of closing the deal with Man Utd. United already reached very advanced stages of the deal.

“It’s done on the player’s side and is waiting for the final touches, but again, Atalanta have new people in charge now.

“United hope to close the deal at around €40-45m. They are working on these final touches, and Ederson will be a Man Utd player unless something crazy happens.”

What are your thoughts on Ederson being linked to Man Utd? Is he what we need?

The update will come as music to the ears of Man Utd fans because, even though the fanbase is divided over how good a signing he is, clarity is always good.

Also encouraging is United holding out to pay a lesser fee than is being reported, giving credence to the thought that he’s just the first piece of the midfield rebuild.

Marquee movements can be expected once this deal is completed.
