Manchester United are preparing for life without Casemiro by stepping up their pursuit of Atalanta’s Ederson.
Now that the 2025/26 season is over, Manchester United are hoping to improve the team in the summer transfer window.
One of the many midfielders linked with a move to Old Trafford is Ederson, after spending the past four years at Atalanta.
The Brazilian was left out of the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup, but United have made progress on a £38m deal for Ederson.

Michael Carrick doesn’t see Ederson as a like-for-like Casemiro replacement
Although United are working on a deal to sign Ederson, Michael Carrick has reportedly accepted that he is not a like-for-like replacement for the departing Casemiro.
According to The Mirror, Carrick’s appointment as permanent head coach sped up the process because he favours a move for Ederson.
The report states that Carrick likes how versatile Ederson can be and doesn’t view him as a like-for-like Casemiro replacement.
Ederson is a player who can play the holding midfield role, but he is also comfortable in more advanced roles.
So, with United already aware that Ederson is a different type of player to Casemiro, it remains to be seen what other midfielders they intend to bring in with the Brazil international.
