Manchester United are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window, both on the incoming and outgoing fronts.

Now that Michael Carrick has been confirmed as the permanent Manchester United head coach for the 2026/27 campaign and beyond, attention is all on recruitment.

It is a massive summer for United to bridge the gap to a title charge, with turbulence around the league opening a golden opportunity.

Specifically, this means completely overhauling the midfield.

Manchester United have now told Manuel Ugarte to leave

With United overhauling the midfield with as many as three signings, Manuel Ugarte was always likely to be a casualty.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe hasn’t been impressed with Ugarte, according to reports, and now United have left him in no doubt over his standing.

It comes according to Fabrizio Romano, Ugarte’s future has been decided.

The journalist reports that United want Ugarte to leave this summer. It is explained that United have already told Ugarte and his representatives that he will be let go this summer.

Ugarte has described this season as a difficult one, with United’s record with him in the team very concerning. Ultimately, a sale is the best move for all involved, since he just isn’t a United player.

Since taking charge, Michael Carrick has clearly not rated Ugarte.

Now, Ugarte looks set to depart United, following Casemiro’s exit, which leaves Kobbie Mainoo as the only midfielder. Ineos have a lot of work to do.

Ugarte should be relatively easy to sell

The good news about Ugarte being on the chopping block is that selling the Uruguayan should be fairly straightforward.

Ugarte’s agents have already been accelerating his exit, with reported meetings to discuss a £24m deal, with Napoli and Atletico Madrid interested.

Additionally, Roberto De Zerbi has been credited with interest, targeting Ugarte as part of his Tottenham rebuild, in what would be an intriguing deal.

Ugarte isn’t a bad player, just not suited to United or playing for a top Premier League side. But he will no doubt go on to shine wherever he moves.
