Manchester United are planning a midfield overhaul this summer and that includes offloading Manuel Ugarte.

It has been two years since Manuel Ugarte joined Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain and the Uruguayan midfielder simply hasn’t settled at Old Trafford.

Reports suggest United are open to selling Ugarte to make space for new midfield arrivals this summer.

The Red Devils are expected to sign two top-class midfielders and promote a third from the academy for 2026/27. Any funds from Ugarte’s sale would help make that happen.

Uruguayan journalist shares Manuel Ugarte transfer update

Ugarte’s time at United seems to be coming to an end, and Uruguayan journalist Rodri Vazquez has provided an update on what could be next for the 25-year-old.

Vazquez, on X, revealed that Ugarte’s representative Jorge Chijane is set to meet with superagent Jorge Mendes to work on his United departure.

He adds that United’s asking price for Ugarte is around €28m (£24m), which represents a major loss on the £42m he was signed for.

Vazquez also named Napoli and Atletico Madrid as the two teams “most interested” in Ugarte ahead of the summer.

Napoli boss Antonio Conte has had huge success shopping from Old Trafford.

Scott McTominay won Serie A MVP after joining Napoli, and Rasmus Hojlund has also taken steps towards revitalising his career since joining the Italian side on loan.

If Conte raids United again for Ugarte, the Uruguayan could link up with the man he was supposed to replace at Old Trafford.

Ugarte was brought in to replace McTominay, but he failed to fill his boots, and now Ineos are planning a big midfield overhaul at Old Trafford.
