Manchester United are about to sign a new centre-back and Ruben Amorim will absolutely love him.

Since Ruben Amorim took charge in November, the role centre-back’s are asked to play at Old Trafford has changed.

With the three at the back, there is a huge weight placed onto the central defenders to play the ball out and get forward in attack. Lisandro Martinez has epitomised this perfectly in recent weeks.

In his last two games, Martinez provided an excellent assist against Rangers and then also scoring the winner against Fulham.

Martinez is showing his teammates the way forward, but now United are on the verge of signing Ayden Heaven who is perfect for this role with impressive on-ball talent.

It could end up saving United millions.

Ayden Heaven will support Lisandro Martinez

There was a rush of excitement among United fans on Tuesday when it was claimed that Ineos had won the race to sign Arsenal’s 18-year-old centre-back, Heaven.

United have won the race to sign Heaven, and interestingly it has been reported that the England U19 star will be in the first team immediately – providing depth to the left side of the back three and Lisandro Martinez, as claimed by Academy Scoop.

Due to the prominent placement that Heaven is due to have within the squad, fans have been racing to find out as much about the 6ft 2in defender as possible.

Heaven described his style as ‘physical’, and this would be a welcome trait in a central defender, but his other qualities will have Amorim excited.

Heaven has the perfect qualities for a Ruben Amorim centre-back

Before Heaven became a centre-back prospect, he was a defensive midfielder in Arsenal’s ranks- which has given the teenager skills which lend themselves well to a defender in Amorim’s system.

While not yet fully developed defensively, Heaven’s past in midfield means he is excellent on the ball in the build-up, as he looks “very smooth on the ball”, as Scouted observed last year.

The scouting report went on to explain that Heaven looked like a midfielder playing in defence, which would be an issue in a back four, but not so much in a back three as he will step up into midfield at times anyway for United.

Heaven regularly plays line-breaking passes with his left foot, while also – similarly to Martinez – has the ability to resist pressure with his composure.

It was noted that heaven could do with filling out his frame, something it appears he has since done. Based on recent appearances.

Amorim will love Heaven’s on-ball ability and he would learn a lot from Martinez considering both like to be adventurous on the ball.

When considering how much Jarrad Branthwaite was going for last summer – around £70m – United have picked up a possible steal if he turns out as hoped. Saving the club millions in a time of PSR struggle.
