Manchester United’s pursuit of Diego Leon seems to have one inevitable outcome, that being the Red Devils making him the first Paraguayan to represent the club.

Diego Leon to Manchester United has been the hottest transfer link of December thus far.

The Paraguayan is on the verge of joining United, and Ineos have went above and beyond to sign him.

Leon is one of the best young footballers in the world and he will fit right in at Carrington among the elite talents at the club.

The 17-year-old will make history if he joins United and could have a very bright future potentially under Ruben Amorim.

However, the deal is yet to be finalised and now the president of Cerro Porteno has shared an update.

Cerro Porteno president on Diego Leon latest

The deal for Leon progressed incredibly fast over the past week or so. It all looks to be heading in the right direction, with Leon’s mother disclosing his desire to move.

Now, we have heard from Cerro Porteno, with the club president Juan Jose Zapag speaking out, as quoted by Paraguayan journalist Bruno Pont.

“The Manchester United interest in Diego Leon is official”, Zapag confirmed.

“It will be defined in the next few days, probably”, he then concluded which suggests that Leon’s move will be all done and dusted soon.

United will likely release a statement confirming the capture of Leon. But as we know he cannot actually join until the end of the season, following his 18th birthday.

Manchester United’s transfer window already off to a great start

The signing of Leon is one completely aligned with the recruitment policy that United have implemented at Old Trafford over the past year.

While he won’t be able to help the club this season, the January transfer window is notoriously bad for doing business.

Due to this, Ineos may be looking to only do business for youngsters and signings for the future.

With this in mind, Sverre Nypan is another deal along similar lines which makes a lot of sense in January – although probably is not a player ready to make much of an impact for the first-team, at least this season.

However, with Marcus Rashford admitting his desire to leave, United may be forced into a big move.
