Manchester United are inching closer to signing Benjamin Sesko as the fourth major arrival of the summer transfer window.

Benjamin Sesko wants to join Manchester United, and Ineos are now working to finalise a deal for the Slovenian star.

Hours after hearing of a Newcastle offer, United bid £73m for Sesko and now look set to win the race for his signature.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United have already agreed personal terms with Sesko, meaning the deal is now in the final stages.

United fans are excited about Sesko arriving in Manchester, but it does pose an interesting question about the future of Rasmus Hojlund.

Ineos face crunch Rasmus Hojlund decision this summer

The reason United were so desperate to sign a new striker this summer is because Hojlund struggled for form in 2024/25.

However, Hojlund has made it clear he wants to stay, despite being linked with several clubs across Europe.

The Dane has welcomed the challenge of competing with Sesko at United, but with Ineos agreeing such a big fee with RB Leipzig, they may view selling Hojlund as a way to help fund the deal.

It has been reported by Laurie Whitwell that Hojlund is “more likely to leave” United this summer than stay, but it seems an exit would be against the player’s wishes.

Following Hojlund’s impressive performance against Bournemouth, Amorim claimed he was more than happy with the Dane, but the decision on his future will likely be made by United’s hierarchy.

Man United would have to sell Rasmus Hojlund for £34.8m to avoid loss

Heading into the summer, it was claimed that United were close to their PSR limits, although the Sesko deal will take spending to over £200 million so it seems the budget was never that small.

However, Ineos will want to focus on sales this summer with the only major outgoing so far being Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Barcelona.

Alongside the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho – Hojlund is another option that Ineos could explore to bring in cash.

But The Telegraph claims that United would have to sell Hojlund for at least £34.8 million this summer to avoid making an accounting loss on him.

Hojlund was signed for £64m in 2023, and his ‘book value’ from a PSR perspective has dropped to £34.8m. If Ineos could find a willing buyer, they could explore a sale.

On the other hand, Amorim could use Hojlund and Sesko to push each other to new heights in 2025/26.
