Manchester United could be forced into action in January with Mason Mount injured and Marcus Rashford cast out.
The January transfer budget available to Ruben Amorim at Manchester United is set to be restricted by Profit and Sustainability Rules, meaning any business is unlikely.
However, that could all change if Marcus Rashford is sold in January. According to finance expert Adam Williams, selling Rashford would fix United’s PSR issues.
The 27-year-old would provide pure profit to United’s accounts due to his status as an academy graduate. However, United would need to dip into the market for a replacement.
United ideally need extra depth in the two No.10 positions that Amorim uses in his 3-4-3 formation. Mason Mount’s latest injury blow also means he will be out until March.
Man United interest in Christopher Nkunku
Back in 2022, Ralf Rangnick urged United to sign Christopher Nkunku during his spectacular run of form at Red Bull Leipzig.
That request was ignored, but United are now showing an interest in the French midfielder ahead of a potential bid in 2025.
United made contact over Nkunku in November with the 27-year-old highlighted as a potential January target.
He has struggled for game time at Chelsea with only two Premier League starts this season. Enzo Maresca wants to keep Nkunku at Stamford Bridge, but the £52m signing wants to be a regular starter.
As an attacking midfielder who is also capable of playing out wide, Christopher Nkunku seems like a great fit for one of the No.10 positions in Amorim’s structure.
Christopher Nkunku offered to Barcelona by his agent
Despite Maresca’s comments, Nkunku appears to be unsettled at Chelsea and is looking for an exit route in 2025.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Nkunku has been offered to Barcelona by his agent Pini Zahavi, who has close relations to the Catalan giants.

The report claims Nkunku wants to leave in January and could be sent out on an initial loan deal.
Despite being offered to Barcelona, the La Liga side are struggling financially and would be unable to register Nkunku in January due to their salary issues.
It opens the door for United to pounce, with Nkunku an ideal replacement if Rashford was to leave Old Trafford in January.
