Manchester United legend Paul Scholes spent the build-up to Manchester United’s Europa League semi-final with Roma laying out his view on the Glazers.
The United owners have come in for increased criticism after an attempt to join a European Super League, and for United fans, that was just the tip of the iceberg.
Scholes, speaking to BT Sport, eloquently laid out why United supporters are so angered by the Glazer family and the way the club has been run over the past decade.
The former United midfielder said: “I’m not sure there ever will be a connection with these owners. I don’t think its just this club.
“As long as there are billionaire owners from America, from other countries, I don’t think there is ever going to be a connection.
“The resources, the money this club has, to not win a trophy for four years, it’s absolutely ridiculous.
“The Glazers, they chose a man to represent them, to run the football club, who is brilliant at making money, funnily enough what all this is about, what they want, but has the football side been neglected through that?
“I don’t think Ed is a football man. I think the man before, David Gill, again brilliant at making money commercially, but he was a football man, he knew football, he knew what the club needed.
“Now we’ve had a few, five or six years of choosing the wrong managers, not giving them the time to produce teams, choosing the wrong type of players for this football club, which has been disappointing, and it’s all down to the ownership, the billionaire owners who are greedy, and just use this club as a title.”
On top of the club’s lack of success, seeing rivals City go on to win multiple league titles since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, with heavy backing from their owners, has highlighted the lack of structure and planning at United during this time.
Ed Woodward announced his resignation last week but is currently scheduled to stay in post until the end of 2021.
United fans protested against the ownership last weekend and bigger protests are planned for Sunday ahead of the Liverpool fixture.
Scholes’ former United teammate Gary Neville was very vocal against the Glazers, calling them ‘scavengers’ in a tirade on Sky Sports a week ago.
They were also criticised in the US press, with one newspaper calling them ‘buffoons’ for their involvement in the Super League fiasco.
