Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has returned to first team training at Carrington.
After being told he was free to leave the club and frozen out of Ruben Amorim’s plans, Tyrell Malacia has returned to first team training.
Malacia failed to secure a summer transfer away from the club, the sole survivor of United’s ‘bomb squad’.
The left-back has now re-joined the rest of the first team squad, pictured with his teammates for the first time, with Amad also rejoining the team following a bereavement.

Multiple deals collapsed for Malacia
Even after the Premier League deadline closed, Manchester United and Tyrell Malacia had attempted to find him a new club.
United In Focus reported how United held talks with clubs in Turkey and Greece, while intermediaries offered him to teams in Cyprus and Belgium. No deal could be reached.
Malacia was named in United’s 25-man Premier League squad, opening the door to a potential return.
Now after training with the under-21s, he has rejoined the first team group, with his attitude and fitness level praised as ‘off the charts’, via the Mail.
A fresh start lies ahead for Malacia, at least until January, where he has to try and prove Ruben Amorim wrong to cast him aside.
But really, his challenge is far bigger than this. Malacia has a point to prove across the football world.
Malacia has to prove PSV Eindhoven wrong, who took him on loan in January, and decided not to activate their £8.3 million purchase clause.
Malacia has to prove wrong practically every club in Europe who needed a left-back, and turned down the chance to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.
United were ready to practically give him away, and would have taken half the fee PSV were prepared to pay.
And after the English deadline passed, United probably would have settled for a fee as low as £2 million for Malacia.
Still there were no takers, no serious offers, not even a loan deal could be reached, placing Malacia’s career in jeopardy, had United not given him another chance.
And then there is the Netherlands angle. He was part of the Dutch 2022 World Cup squad. He can’t get a look-in at the moment and must be desperate to make an unlikely comeback.
Now he must have the biggest chip on his shoulder as he attempts to restart his career, and prove a point to the football world. This goes far beyond Ruben Amorim alone, or football director Jason Wilcox.
Opportunities expected to be limited for Malacia
While Tyrell Malacia is back, opportunities are expected to be limited, considering Manchester United have no European football and are out of the Carabao Cup.
Malacia played under Amorim at the end of 2024, but was sent out on loan as soon as a deal was struck for Patrick Dorgu.
Dorgu is United’s first choice at left wing-back, while Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot or even Noussair Mazraoui could play there if needed.
Malacia may leapfrog young untested talent Diego Leon, but even then, he will really have to impress in training in order to move up the queue.
The first step is making it into a matchday squad. One step at a time. And if he can get involved and pick up some minutes, he stands a better chance of landing a move away in January.
