Three players who will have blown Ruben Amorim away with display for Man Utd in 5-2 win vs Leicester

Manchester United progressed in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday by thrashing Leicester 5-2 at Old Trafford.

It was the night which Ruud van Nistelrooy would have been dreaming of as he took charge of Manchester United for the first time.

The interim manager deployed a system which differed from Erik ten Hag, and it certainly impressed as United bagged five goals against Premier League opposition.

Casemiro was the man of the match as he scored twice in the win – while a Bruno Fernandes brace and one goal from Alejandro Garnacho, rounded out the scoring.

Prospective new United manager Ruben Amorim will have been thrilled with the performance and three players in particular will have blown him away.

Casemiro

For Manchester United, the standout performer on Wednesday night was Casemiro as he returned to his goalscoring ways with a brace.

The Brazilian was afforded the freedom to go forward and almost played in the role Kobbie Mainoo will slot into upon his return from injury.

Casemiro looked like a man reborn as he continued to have a career resurgence, proving his doubters wrong in the process – while Amorim will probably view the 32-year-old as a great option in midfield.

While unlikely to be a starter under Amorim as Manuel Ugarte begins to show his worth, Casemiro may well end up the first back-up in both midfield positions.

Manuel Ugarte

Another player who will have delighted Amorim with his performance is Casemiro’s midfield partner, Ugarte.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan has been steadily improving over the past few weeks, and against Leicester was his best display to date.

Ugarte is likely to be one of the biggest winners from Amorim’s arrival, considering he excelled under the Portuguese manager at Sporting.

Alejandro Garnacho

The final name on our list who will have caught the eye of Amorim on Wednesday night is Garnacho – with the Argentine grabbing a goal and an assist.

At just 19, Garnacho has already established himself as the main man at Old Trafford – with six goals and four assists already this season in all competitions.

Amorim will likely have designs on turning Garnacho into an absolute star for the Red Devils – and the winger is already halfway there.
