Manchester United will have to wait a few more days before the announcement of Ruben Amorim as manager.
Supporters had their eyes peeled on Sporting Lisbon’s 3-1 win over Nacional on Tuesday night with many anticipating that it would be Ruben Amorim‘s farewell match.
Amorim has agreed to join United and Sporting released a statement confirming that there is an agreement for his €10million (£8.3million) release clause to be paid.
The 39-year-old responded to questions about joining United in his post-match press conference on Tuesday evening but kept his cards close to his chest and insisted there was “nothing to say… yet”.
United flew chiefs out to Portugal to finalise the deal and there was a growing hope that Amorim would be in charge against Chelsea for the Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

Ruben Amorim set to fly to England this weekend
Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to lead United against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, and he may well be in the dugout against Chelsea too.
That is because Portuguese outlet Record report that Amorim is set to stay in Portugal and take charge of one final match.
They claim Amorim will stay and oversee Sporting’s match against Estrela da Amadora on Friday, but could head to England over the weekend.
With United set to face Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, it would be a big shock if Amorim was in charge just hours after arriving in the country. It is more likely that he will be in the stands at Old Trafford to get a close-up look at his new squad in action.
Ruben Amorim plan will affect Manchester City
Amorim was heavily rumoured to be Manchester City’s ideal replacement for Pep Guardiola once he left the club.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, that is now being denied, but there is no denying that Amorim is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting young coaches who is admired by top clubs around the world.
Omar Berrada was a big driving force in Amorim’s appointment and the former City chief seems to have landed a blow against his former side by moving quickly to secure Amorim’s signature.
Amorim’s plans to fly to England this weekend are also set to impact City as the Portuguese manager will not be in the dugout for their Champions League showdown.
City are scheduled to face Sporting in the Champions League next Tuesday, but by that point, Amorim will likely be preparing for his first match in charge of United against PAOK in the Europa League.
