Ruben Amorim can take a major positive from what he saw in one Manchester United star’s solid display against Wolves at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United languish in 14th place in their woeful Premier League campaign and the Red Devils have only five league matches remaining this season.
Ruben Amorim’s men have only picked up 10 Premier League victories in 33 matches and the Red Devils have won only one match in their last five league fixtures.
United are on course for their worst finish in the Premier League era and the Red Devils could even fail to finish in the top half of the table in the 2024-25 campaign.
Amorim’s hopes for securing European football for the 2025-26 campaign now rely on United reaching the Europa League final and lifting the trophy this season.
United knocked Lyon out of the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday after a 5-4 comeback win at Old Trafford in the return-leg encounter against the French side.
The Red Devils are through to the Europa League semi-finals and United will now face La Liga club Athletic Bilbao across two matches in May.
The momentum from United’s victory over Lyon in the Europa League quickly fizzled after Amorim’s men dropped Premier League points on the weekend.

Patrick Dorgu produced a hidden detail from his Man Utd performance vs Wolves in the Premier League tie at Old Trafford
Ruben Amorim rotated his Manchester United first-team squad for the encounter with Wolves after the Red Devils staged their late comeback win against Lyon.
Patrick Dorgu played out in the left wing-back role in the Europa League tie on Thursday, but Amorim shook up his approach to using the player against Wolves.
The 20-year-old Danish full-back, who can operate on both flanks, was deployed out on the right wing-back role and Harry Amass played out on the left.
Patrick Dorgu has played on both flanks under United manager Amorim and the Red Devils defender managed 59 minutes before Diogo Dalot came onto the pitch.
Diogo Dalot has been Amorim’s first-choice pick for the right side, but Dorgu was lively in the first half and put in some solid crosses for United against Wolves.
Dorgu arrived at Old Trafford in the January transfer window after United signed him for a reported £25m transfer fee from Serie A side Lecce in February.
The Denmark international is built for Amorim’s tactical system at United and Dorgu proved that with a key stat he produced from his performance at Old Trafford.
Statman Dave on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, pointed out that Dorgu made more tackles (five) than any other player on the pitch in the first half.
According to Statman Dave, Dorgu was subbed off in United vs Wolves after he won 11 duels and the Denmark defender had won the most tackles in the entire match.
Why Ruben Amorim might have pulled off Patrick Dorgu vs Wolves, despite the Man Utd star playing well at Old Trafford
Amorim’s decision to withdraw Dorgu and replace him with Diogo Dalot could fall on his desire to rotate his United squad to “protect” his players going forward.
“That’s the idea [to protect players and give minutes to others],” he said after the 1-0 defeat to Wolves, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“That is not our focus. Our focus is to win games.
“Of course, we need to protect players from this sequence, thinking about the Europa League also but we need to have more points on the table.”
United will face Bournemouth in the Premier League on 27th April before the Red Devils travel to Spain to face Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League on 1st May.
