Ruben Amorim says ‘all the team’ were equally as responsible as what one Man Utd star was expected to do vs Wolves

Ruben Amorim has staunchly defended one Manchester United star and said it is more of a “team thing” after the Red Devils’ encounter with Wolves on Sunday.

Manchester United hosted Wolves at Old Trafford and the Red Devils suffered another major setback in their lacklustre 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils were left chasing an equaliser on Sunday after Pablo Sarabia converted a sensational free-kick into the top corner in the second half for Wolves.

Andre Onana was unable to prevent Pablo Sarabia’s opener and Wolves secured a 1-0 win over United in the Premier League clash on the weekend.

Wolves have won all five of their last five Premier League matches and Vitor Pereira’s men moved level on points with United in the table after Sunday’s match.

United are 14th in the Premier League table and Wolves are 15th and Ruben Amorim’s men have now won only one match in their last five league fixtures.

The Red Devils fell to their 15th Premier League defeat of the season and Ruben Amorim’s side have managed only 10 league wins from 33 matches.

Ruben Amorim sets the record straight over Rasmus Hojlund after Man Utd striker’s performance vs Wolves at Old Trafford

Rasmus Hojlund led the Manchester United attack against Wolves and the Denmark international failed to impress with his performance at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The 22-year-old United striker has only scored three times in 28 Premier League matches and Rasmus Hojlund has been unreliable in the final third this season.

Hojlund, who is in his second season at Old Trafford, has netted eight times and picked up four assists in 45 matches in all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.

United manager Ruben Amorim made the call to withdraw the Danish forward in the 70th minute against Wolves and replaced him with United forward Chido Obi-Martin.

Speaking after the Premier League defeat at Old Trafford, Amorim insisted that Hojlund was not alone in missing important chances against Wolves.

“If you look at the games, we have several players that missed big chances, not just Rasmus,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“But Rasmus, of course, the game is to score goals because he is a striker. But it’s a team thing.

“I’ve already said that. Our team should score goals. It’s not just Rasmus that’s missing the chances, it’s all the team.”

Ruben Amorim asked about Man Utd’s need for a new striking option amid the struggles of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee

Amorim has had to rely on Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as his main striking options and both United forwards have struggled to put up consistent numbers.

United have been tipped to move for a new striker in the summer and Amorim claimed that his team need to “improve” overall in the final third going forward.

“Again, it’s a team thing,” Amorim said.

“Of course, we have an idea what this team needs. But also, we play with at least three guys up front, so they can score goals.

“We play the midfielders that can reach [attacking areas] and you saw it today.

“All the team needs to score more goals and we have opportunities with the midfielders, with the striker.

“We need to improve as a team, because if you don’t score goals in this league, it’s impossible to win games.”

United will now return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon against Bournemouth, with kick-off slated for 2pm UK time at the Vitality Stadium.
