Robert Lewandowski to Man Utd goes against Ineos promise but he is perfect for ‘Project 150’

Manchester United are in need of an experienced striker and Robert Lewandowski is going to be available at the perfect time.

With Manchester United back in the Champions League for 2026/27, Ineos will have to prepare the squad to compete in four competitions next season.

Squad depth will be crucial, and United need extra reinforcements up front with Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee the only natural centre-forwards, and even that is debatable for the latter.

With Zirkzee likely to leave in the summer, another striker will be needed. Ineos have the choice of going for another young prospect or an experienced winner.

Why Robert Lewandowski suits Ineos’ ‘Project 150’

Back in late 2025 when United were linked with Lewandowski, I was against a move for the Polish forward because it went against everything Ineos promised in the transfer window.

Ineos have prioritised young, exciting talents, and the transfer business at United has been much improved as a result.

But there is no hiding from Ineos’ plan to win the Premier League by 2028 – nicknamed ‘Project 150’.

Michael Carrick’s resurgence means that United are on track to finish third, and a title challenge suddenly seems very realistic.

But United will need winners, and experienced ones at that. Losing Casemiro is a big blow to United’s dressing room leadership, but Lewandowski would fill that void.

Robert Lewandowski’s title-winning experience is ridiculous

On Sunday, Marcus Rashford won La Liga with Barcelona to win the first league title of his career.

He lifted the trophy alongside Lewandowski, who was celebrating his third La Liga title with Barcelona.

As pointed out by TNT Sports, it means that Lewandowski has won the league title in 14 out of the 18 seasons he’s played in his career.

Of course, that record is skewed by his time at Bayern Munich, who are often dominant in Germany. But he also won two Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund.

If there is one striker in Europe who knows how to get a title battle over the line, it is Lewandowski. If United are serious about their Premier League ambitions, perhaps it’s a move that Ineos should be exploring.

Lewandowski’s contract will expire this summer, making him available as a free agent for 2026/27.
