Paul Scholes’ early warning over Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha for Ruben Amorim from Wolves has already shown one flaw in his argument.
Matheus Cunha had been linked with Manchester United in recent months and the former Wolves ace was tipped to leave the Molineux in the summer.
United wasted no time in signing Cunha and the Red Devils triggered the £62.5m release clause in the 26-year-old Brazilian attacker’s Wolves contract.
Cunha has inked a five-year deal with United and the Brazil international’s move was subject to him meeting his visa and registration requirements for the transfer.
The United summer signing impressed for Wolves in the 2024-25 campaign and Cunha netted 17 times and registered six assists in 36 matches last season.
Ruben Amorim is a big admirer of the Brazil forward and Cunha is tipped to play a key role for the United manager in his tactical system at Old Trafford.

What exactly did Paul Scholes say about Matheus Cunha before Man Utd signed him from Wolves for Ruben Amorim?
Ruben Amorim’s men were wasteful in the final third last season and the former Sporting CP boss was left frustrated with Manchester United’s lack of impact.
United finished in a woeful 15th place in the Premier League table last season and the Red Devils will not have European football for the 2025-26 campaign.
Speaking in his column for TNT Sports in April, Paul Scholes said that he was concerned with Matheus Cunha’s role in Ruben Amorim’s United system.
The United legend asked: “And with Cunha, is he a centre-forward or is he a wide player?”
Scholes then added: “There’s no doubt that he has quality and of course, it would be nice to sign him, but I worry about where he fits in.
“You can sign the best three players in the world, and I think they’ll struggle coming into this team at the minute, but they’ve got to start somewhere.”
Matheus Cunha has already answered Paul Scholes’ biggest worry before he featured under Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim
Cunha has been away on international duty with Brazil and linked up with United teammates Casemiro and Antony during the World Cup qualifiers.
The United summer signing came off the bench and Cunha put in a second-half cameo performance for Brazil in the 0-0 draw against Ecuador last Friday.
However, Cunha impressed United fans on Wednesday after he started for Brazil and picked up an assist in the 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Paraguay.
Carlo Ancelotti spoke about Cunha after the match and the Brazil manager explained why he chose to play the former Wolves star behind Vinicius Junior in attack.
Cunha showed his versatility under Carlo Ancelotti, who left Real Madrid in May, and put to bed Scholes’ argument about the ‘only two positions’ he could play at United.
The United new boy is tipped to play as the left-sided No 10 under Amorim, but Cunha has already shown he’s the perfect profile fit for any attacking position.
