Manchester United fans could not unsee one “comparison” after Matheus Cunha’s major impact for Brazil in their World Cup-qualifying match against Paraguay on Wednesday.
Matheus Cunha was linked with Manchester United in recent months and Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim is a big admirer of the 26-year-old Wolves ace.
The Red Devils are expected to have a busy summer transfer window after a poor season and United wasted no time signing Cunha from Wolves in June.
United triggered Cunha’s £62.5m release clause in his Wolves contract and he will move to the Red Devils once his visa and registration requirements are completed.
Cunha impressed for Wolves in the 2024-25 season and the Brazil international netted 17 times and registered six assists in 36 matches across all competitions.
The soon-to-be Red Devils star was a top target for United this summer and Cunha is only one part of Ruben Amorim’s major United first-team squad overhaul.

Man Utd fans’ reaction to Matheus Cunha’s performance for Brazil vs Paraguay in the World Cup qualifier spoke volumes
Matheus Cunha started for Carlo Ancelotti’s men on Wednesday and the Brazil forward impressed with his stunning display while on international duty.
The Wolves star played behind Vinicius Junior in attack and Cunha secured an assist during his 79 minutes on the pitch in the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay.
Vinicius Junior broke the deadlock – and found the eventual winner – in the first half after Manchester United signing Cunha had picked him out with a superb low cross.
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, made immediate comparisons with Bruno Fernandes after Cunha picked up his assist for Brazil.
One X user said: “Weirdly reminds me of Bruno Fernandes with his temperament of the game. Not afraid to shoot outside the box, always attempting the final ball. His speed when carrying the ball is a whole [other] level, though. He’s going to be brilliant for us.”
Another responded: “I’m feeling this Bruno comparison and have for a while. It’s a mental thing. You can see it.”
While a third United fan wrote: “I am convinced we are playing Bruno as [a No] 6 because of him.”
“Cunha x [Bryan] Mbeumo x [Viktor] Gyokeres x Bruno Fernandes x Amad [Diallo] scary hours [sic],” someone else commented.
And a fifth Red Devils supporter tweeted: “Don’t even worry about a Gyokeres goal drought when we have Mbeumo, Cunha and Bruno next to him. Just sign him; things will find a way to work out.”
A sixth posted: “Bruno behind Cunha is gonna do numbers this season. Gimmie a proper striker [and] we might win the league.”
Somebody else suggested: “Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes playing behind Gyokeres, and there’s also Mbeumo.”
Another claimed: “Whoever pushed the Cunha signing at United deserves a salary raise. What an absolute baller for the coming years!”
What is next for Man Utd signing Matheus Cunha after Brazil’s World Cup qualifier vs Paraguay?
Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti withdrew Matheus Cunha in the second half against Paraguay and the United signing made way in the 79th minute for Gerson.
The five-time World Cup winner’s 1-0 victory at the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo ensured that Ancelotti’s men would be heading to the FIFA tournament in 2026.
Brazil are third in their World Cup qualifying table and Ancelotti’s men are now level on points with second-place Ecuador after Wednesday’s result against Paraguay.
Cunha had been on international duty with soon-to-be United teammates Casemiro and Antony amid his move to Old Trafford being announced this month.
United finished their post-season tour of Asia in May and Ruben Amorim’s men are expected to begin their pre-season campaign in July.
