Manchester United will have been watching the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night with envy.
However, not because of how close Ruben Amorim was to completing a comeback from 3-0 down in the quarter-final which Spurs won 4-3.
But instead, it was the 18-year-old that stole the show who Manchester United will have been watching with envy.
On the night, Liverpool headed to Tottenham for leg one of the semi-final – and surprisingly it was the home side who came out on top.
Spurs picked up a 1-0 win to carry an advantage into the second leg, with the goal coming from talented midfielder Lucas Bergvall from Sweden.
This will have United thinking of what could have been.

Manchester United will regret missing out on Lucas Bergvall
Before Bergvall was the Carabao Cup semi-final-scoring teenager, he was a 15-year-old wonderkid who Manchester United were keen to sign.
The Scandinavian talent was on trial at United twice – first in 2020 and then in 2022.
Bergvall was even pictured in action for United while assisting for the U16s in 2022. However, Bergvall ended up signing with Djurgarden before he was picked up by Tottenham.
Now after Bergvall’s goal United will be kicking themselves – however there were reasons behind the failure to secure his arrival.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United were unable to sign Bergvall during his second trial in 2022 due to Brexit restrictions which meant the trial was simply to establish interest.
However, MEN added: “Sources say the turnover of United’s recruitment staff in 2022 contributed to Bergvall slipping the net. Bergvall ultimately opted to join Djurgardens in December 2022.”
Signing Sverre Nypan can correct the wrong
While Bergvall may end up being labelled as one that got away – United can correct this wrong as early as this month.
This is because the club are reportedly eyeing up a move to sign Rosenborg’s Sverre Nypan, with a fee of £10m being cited.
Nypan turned 18 last month and is already a few seasons deep in his career – with his most recent being the best as he played 28 times, scoring eight and assisting seven.
The Norwegian wonderkid is a United fan, which means all the cards are in United’s favour – it would be a real disappointment should the Red Devils fail to secure this one.
Luckily, it is a deal which is right up Ineos‘ alley and we fully expect this to happen in 2025 as he can finally be signed.
Hopefully, we see this deal move soon.
