In the wake of Ruben Amorim’s dismissal at Manchester United, some players in the squad will be trying to take any opportunities that come their way to impress potential candidates for the vacant head coach role.
The news broke on Monday morning that Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim. It means that Darren Fletcher will be sitting in the dugout on Wednesday night when the Red Devils take on Burnley at Turf Moor.
Fletcher has been tasked with taking charge of the team for the foreseeable future, but it remains to be seen if the former Scotland international will remain in the hotseat for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.
How will YOU remember Ruben Amorim? What is his LEGACY at Man Utd?
It is understood that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on the role, with Michael Carrick being among the candidates to take charge of United’s first team for six months.
United fans will do all they can to rally behind Fletcher for however long he is the temporary head coach, after impressing in charge of the U18s this season.
As far as the United players are concerned, they must do everything they can to deliver under Fletcher as it would help them in the race for a Champions League spot.

Toby Collyer has a good relationship with Darren Fletcher
United recalled Toby Collyer from his loan spell at West Brom at the beginning of January.
The 22-year-old endured a frustrating stint at The Hawthorns, with the United academy graduate limited to just 12 appearances in the Championship due to multiple injury setbacks.
It is understood that Collyer won’t be in contention to play for United until later this month, but he is expected to become a midfield option for whoever is in charge of the first team.
Amorim had Collyer in his plans before his dismissal as head coach on Monday, but the young midfielder had previously made it clear that he had a lot of respect for Fletcher.
Fletcher knows Collyer from his time in the academy and will be supportive towards the players following his return to the club.
Last March, Collyer stressed his desire to learn from Fletcher.
Collyer said, “I signed and I remember I saw Darren Fletcher. He came and spoke to me, which was obviously a big thing, because he’s a player who I’d say I play like.
“So to see him come and speak to me gave me great confidence and the belief that I could achieve things at this club.”
He added: “I think it’s important to know things about the club.
“With Fletcher, I think, with my game, it’s quite similar to his and I think that’s why it’s great for him to be around, from my perspective.
“I can learn from him, always speak to him and get his opinion on things.”
That means it’s worked out as the perfect time for Collyer to return to Old Trafford. He might get to play under one of his role models.
Ruben Amorim’s BIGGEST MISTAKE at Manchester United was ________________
✍️ Fill in the blank…
Collyer will need to stay fit if he’s to get a run in the team, but he will be eager to impress given the lack of midfield options in the current squad.
Under Amorim, United set up with two central midfielders in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Only time will tell what changes Fletcher will make.
Man Utd players unhappy that Ruben Amorim was sacked
Amorim had not lost the dressing room when United decided to fire the man they brought from Sporting CP just 14 months ago.
According to The Sun, the majority of United players are unhappy with the sacking of Amorim.
Sources close to the team claim Amorim was popular with the players until the very end.
Several United players expressed their gratitude, as Chido Obi and Harry Amass sent their best wishes to Amorim on social media.
United need to be mindful when appointing an interim manager until the end of the season. They don’t want a repeat of Ralf Rangnick, who came in and caused further unrest in the dressing room.
