Chido Obi has sent a farewell message to Ruben Amorim after the Portuguese coach was relieved of his duties at Manchester United.
The past 12 months made it a milestone year for Chido Obi.
After leaving Arsenal’s academy as a hot prospect for Manchester United, Obi wasted no time making an introduction in the first team.
Obi became United’s youngest-ever player (17 years and 156 days) to start a Premier League match, against Brentford on May 4, 2025.
What is your honest opinion of Jason Wilcox and his role as director of football?
In February of that year, Obi made his debut to become United’s 252nd academy graduate when he came off the bench against Tottenham.
Obi has not made a single appearance for the first team this season, with the young striker still learning his trade with the U21s.
United fans will hope that Obi can kick on and become a star for the future. That is why Ineos worked so hard to bring him to Old Trafford when they had the opportunity.

Chido Obi owes Man Utd debut to Ruben Amorim
There is uncertainty for players whenever a manager or head coach leaves a club.
Amorim had his favourites, but there were also players he’d often overlook, like Kobbie Mainoo, who will be eager to get more opportunities in the team now that there will be a change in management.
Although Amorim was guilty of harshly criticising Obi earlier this season, raising concerns among United chiefs, the youngster has looked beyond that to send a positive message to his former head coach following his dismissal.
United sacked Amorim on Monday, but Obi was quick to share a message on Instagram, thanking the 40-year-old coach for giving him a first-team debut at United.
Obi shared a photo of Amorim giving him instructions on the touchline, with the following message attached: “Thanks for everything gaffer especially for allowing me to make my debut for such a big club. Wish you all the best.”

✍️ Fill in the blank…
Perhaps this shows that Obi was able to take Amorim’s criticism on the chin, with the youngster now seeing the bigger picture that he benefited from the coach after gaining valuable first-team experience at a young age.
Obi is bound to want more experience under the next permanent manager.
Harry Amass echoes Chido Obi’s appreciation towards Ruben Amorim
Harry Amass is another United youth player, currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, who faced harsh criticism from Amorim.
Like Obi, Amass has not let that get in the way of wishing his former head coach the best of luck in the future.
Amass also took to Instagram with the following message for Amorim: “Thank you gaffer for the opportunities and making this year very special good luck in the future.”
