Congratulations to Marcus Rashford on his La Liga title success at Barcelona.
A fantastic free-kick from Marcus Rashford set Barcelona on the way to defeating Real Madrid and sealing the La Liga title for 2025/26.
Rashford became the first player since Lionel Messi to score a free-kick in El Clasico.
The goal and the context of the strike highlighted Rashford’s ability. This is a player who once scored 30 times in a single season for Manchester United.
There has been a lot of discussion about Rashford’s future, with Barcelona hesitant over a deal.
Rashford has often had to play second-fiddle to Barcelona’s preferred front three of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
This has led to questions over whether Marcus Rashford actually has a future at Manchester United. I hope this is a situation that does not come to fruition.

What is Marcus Rashford truly worth in 2026 after his Barcelona loan?
Barcelona have a £26m buy option for Marcus Rashford, but what is he actually worth in today's market?
Marcus Rashford is where he wants to be
I could quite easily see a scenario where Marcus Rashford reports to Manchester United for pre-season and gets given a fresh chance under Michael Carrick, who I assume will be permanent boss by then.
Carrick and assistant boss Steve Holland have both worked with Rashford before, with United and England.
I cannot see them giving him the ‘bomb squad treatment‘ Ruben Amorim dealt out last summer. It’s far more likely that the coaching staff take a look at Rashford and think, ‘we can fix him’.
The issue is that Marcus Rashford does not need fixing.
He is where he wants to be, and he is happy.
Speaking after Barcelona’s title win, Rashford told reporters: “If I was a magician, I would stay at Barcelona”.
You cannot put it any more plainly than that. Rashford wants to sign with Barcelona on a permanent basis.
It is up to the La Liga champions to pay up the agreed £26 million fee, a very reasonable amount, although the overall package is made more expensive by his wages.
Marcus Rashford evidently does not want to return to Man Utd – There is no way back for him surely?!

Bringing back Marcus Rashford would feel like a backward step for all
Marcus Rashford has scored 138 career goals for Manchester United, an achievement he should be truly proud of.
Now 28, perhaps there’s a possibility he returns to Old Trafford as a 35-year-old veteran to top up his goal tally later down the line.
But right now, it is time to move on.
Rashford initiated this decision when he gave an interview in December 2024 explaining that he wanted a new challenge.
He told Henry Winter: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”
This type of statement mid-season elicited a mixed response from fans, and Rashford was sent on loan to Aston Villa.
That was a stop-gap solution for club and player, before he clinched his loan move to Barcelona.
Upon signing for the La Liga giants, Rashford immediately declared: “Barcelona is a club where people’s dreams come true.
“What the club stands for means a lot to me as well and it feels like I’m at home, and this is a big factor in my choice.”
His enthusiasm for the project has not dimmed. He wants to stay at Barcelona.
With all of this in mind, I cannot see a scenario where it is in Marcus Rashford’s best interests to rejoin Manchester United next season.
When Rashford is at his best, he is fully bought in. And when his intensity is less than 100 per cent, he does not live up to his potential.
If he returns to Manchester United, we are unlikely to get a fully motivated Rashford. He has the ability to be a huge asset if he returns – but I don’t believe he wants it enough.
I want United to succeed, and Rashford’s dream is to be elsewhere.
A return to Old Trafford is not in his plans, so it should not be in United’s either.
