Over the weekend, news broke of Chelsea striking a £117m agreement to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.
Rogers is set to sign a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge and Aston Villa will receive a Premier League record fee for the 23-year-old, just days after Manchester United signed Youri Tielemans for £35m.
United were linked with Rogers but never showed serious interest in signing him this summer. However, his move to the capital could still play an impact on the Red Devils’ transfer business.

Firstly, Villa need a replacement for Rogers, and that could lead to fresh interest in Marcus Rashford.
Rashford joined Villa on loan in 2025 for the second half of the season after he fell out of Ruben Amorim’s plans.
Villa rejected the chance to sign Rashford permanently, but only because they failed to qualify for the Champions League. In 2026/27, Unai Emery’s side will return to the European competition.

As well as Rashford, Rogers’ big-money move could have major ramifications for Cole Palmer.
United have been linked to Palmer for a couple of years now, but rumours intensified in January when reports claimed that Palmer was unsettled at Chelsea and wanted to move back north.
It is well-known that Palmer grew up as a United fan and would relish the chance to play for the Red Devils, but his signature was never going to be cheap.

However, with Rogers now joining Chelsea, Palmer’s importance has lessened and it could pave the way for the 24-year-old to join United.
