Harry Maguire has given his unequivocal backing for Marcus Rashford’s return to Man Utd, but missed a key point in it.
Having been sent back insultingly by Barcelona at the end of his loan, Marcus Rashford’s career is at a crossroads once again.
He’s open to returning to Man Utd, Barcelona are waiting to press him into a corner once again, while an asking price of £40m complicates matters.
Amidst all these developments, Harry Maguire has given strong backing for him to return to Old Trafford.
What is Marcus Rashford truly worth in 2026 after his Barcelona loan?
Barcelona have a £26m buy option for Marcus Rashford, but what is he actually worth in today's market?
Harry Maguire backs Marcus Rashford’s Man Utd return
It’s no secret that Marcus Rashford is a brilliant player who can contribute to any elite team over the course of a season.
In fact, that is why eyebrows were raised when Barcelona didn’t buy him permanently, as he finished in double figures in both goals and assists last season.
United can certainly do with a left-winger forward, and Maguire knows Rashford’s qualities well, which is why he’s backed him to return.
Maguire said: “I know what a wonderful player he can be. It’s up to the club and up to Marcus to find a mutual agreement.
“Of course, if Marcus does come back, we want him to come back and play and be happy and confident. It needs to be right for himself, it needs to be right for the club, but everyone knows what a great player Marcus can be for whatever club he plays for next season.
“I have an amazing relationship with Marcus. He’s unstoppable on his day.”
Ineos have a Rashford wages problem
Nobody denies that Rashford is a talented player who could be of major use to Carrick, but the elephant in the room is worth £325k/week.
What’s YOUR message to Marcus Rashford after Barcelona’s deal for Anthony Gordon?
Should Man Utd use this reality check to try and bring Rashford back?
Maguire does make the point Rashford and the club need to come to an agreement, but that agreement has failed for the last two seasons.
The reality is that Maguire misses the point how a player on £325k/week shouldn’t just be unstoppable “on his day”, but should be expected to rival Bruno Fernandes as the club’s talisman.
It’s why there will always remain a dissonance between what United want to pay him, and what he is already being paid.
It’s why even if he is open to returning to Man Utd, Ineos have had enough of him.
It’s why he will likely be given the Andre Onana treatment if they fail to find a permanent buyer for him. The answer is in his weekly wage.
