The prospect of Marcus Rashford returning to Manchester United has been a hot topic this week.
Now that the June 15 deadline has passed and Barcelona won’t be signing Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal for £26 million, questions are inevitably going to be asked about the forward’s potential return to Manchester United.
This is not something United wanted to be contemplating because Champions League qualification means Rashford is in line to earn approximately £325k a week at Old Trafford.
That makes it an incredibly costly return if it were to happen. Only time will tell if the England international attracts interest from other clubs by impressing at the 2026 World Cup.

Marcus Rashford evidently does not want to return to Man Utd – There is no way back for him surely?!

Rene Meulensteen not giving up on Marcus Rashford
Sir Alex Ferguson trusted Rene Meulensteen as a coach, so the Dutchman must have something in his locker – whether it’s tactical nous or the ability to work with top footballers, perhaps both.
Currently at the World Cup, as Iraq assistant manager, Meulensteen is still coaching and competing at the highest level.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tipman Tips, Meulensteen gave his thoughts on the potential return of Rashford to United.
Meulensteen insists there is a way back to United for Rashford, who fell out of love with United under Ruben Amorim, however, the England star has to be aligned with both the club and Michael Carrick, who may be unwilling to undo the hard work he oversaw during his interim spell in charge.
“It’s an interesting conversation that has three sides to it really. There’s Manchester United, Michael Carrick, what does he think of it, and what does Marcus Rashford think himself?
“We all know that he’s on huge, huge wages, but Marcus Rashford is a good and valuable player when in a good head space. He’s probably one of the best left wingers in the world, and they can’t really get someone better. Marcus is obviously a Manchester United lad, and has come through the ranks as a little kid and everything, but for some reason he’s fallen out of love, whether with the club or with how things were under Amorim, I don’t know, but it has to be a three-way conversation and they all need to be aligned.
“If they are aligned, then yes there is a way back, if they’re not aligned, for whatever reason, whether the club says no, we want to move on, or Michael Carrick says no, I don’t want to bring him in, or Marcus Rashford says no, I don’t want to come back, then no. Any of those motivations are valid to some extent, but once again, if they’re all aligned, they’re all singing from the same hymn sheet, then yes, if that isn’t the case, they have to find a different solution.”

Marcus Rashford is one of Thomas Tuchel’s big dilemmas at World Cup
After England’s opening match at the World Cup, there are two players who many think Thomas Tuchel needs to start against Ghana in their second match.
They include United’s Rashford as well as Man City’s Marc Guehi.
Rashford scored England’s fifth World Cup goal in the 4-2 victory after replacing Anthony Gordon, who got the nod on the left flank.
A strong tournament for Rashford could lead to a quick transfer this summer.
