How Crysencio Summerville compares with Matheus Cunha, Marcus Rashford and Patrick Dorgu

Crysencio Summerville has emerged as a left-wing option for Manchester United this summer, to mixed reactions.

According to reports, Manchester United have already made an approach for Crysencio Summerville in a deal which would almost certainly be linked to the Mateus Fernandes move.

The interest really picked up after Summerville’s World Cup goal against Japan, reminding the world of his talent after a slow year at relegated West Ham.

Despite the evident quality he has, the deal isn’t unanimously considered a good one. But it is impossible to judge Summerville on the sum of his goals or assists at a relegated side, because as a footballer he would suit playing in a more dominant team.

Crysencio Summerville can’t be completely judged on his West Ham goals and assists

Summerville is being viewed as a winger to add depth across the frontline, but at 24, playing in a big team could be the move that allows him to kick on and be even better than he has already shown.

The past few years have seen Summerville impress even when he’s in a team that are forced to defend for 90 minutes, and he is therefore only really getting chances on the counter, which isn’t his game.

Summerville is the kind of winger you want against low blocks, taking on defenders, and making something of nothing, as seen against Japan for his goal.

This also happens to be what United need, with the alternatives at the club now offering vastly different things to Marcus Rashford, Patrick Dorgu, and Matheus Cunha currently in that position.

From this, it can be seen how impactful Dorgu is at creating chances as a winger for United compared to Cunha, with the main difference being that Dorgu holds width and Cunha doesn’t.

So the area for United to be more effective is out wide, and while Dorgu is brilliant, adding Summerville’s technical quality and ability to beat defenders out wide would probably see his number shoot up to Dorgu’s or beyond.

It is difficult to put Summerville down for his attacking output when we’re comparing him to United and Barcelona wingers. But platformed in a more dominant side, the signs are all there that he will shine, with his performances for West Ham actually surpassing Cunha for United in many ways.

Summerville also has the tenacity Michael Carrick wants

While Summerville ticks boxes from an attacking standpoint, his off-the-ball quality is also a green flag for Michael Carrick.

The United boss wants his wingers to work hard, track back, and contribute to the side in more ways than just goals.

Summerville offers an abundance of experience in this department, playing for relegation sides, and his numbers show he isn’t afraid to do the dirty work.

Signing the Dutchman would be a risk at £50m, but for £40m or less, it is a punt worth taking to really round out United’s new attacking line.

In summary, Summerville stacks up really well against United’s left-wing options right now, and his numbers would be scaled should he play for a big club like United. He could be a brilliant piece of business this summer.
