Felix Nmecha just became an even more attractive deal for Man United and Michael Carrick

Manchester United have turned to Felix Nmecha as a new transfer target and his World Cup exit makes the deal even more attractive.

There was a big upset at the 2026 World Cup when Germany were knocked out by Paraguay via a penalty shootout.

There are 11 Manchester United players in the knockout stage of the World Cup this summer, and several more transfer targets are also competing in the tournament.

United have shown interest in Felix Nmecha as a midfield option, with Christopher Vivell leading the charge for his signature. Felix Nmecha was in the Germany squad that crashed out of the World Cup at the round of 32.

Felix Nmecha is now a perfect Man United signing

United’s only transfer deal so far is the £38 million capture of Ederson. After the deal was agreed, Ederson was called up to the Brazil squad as a late replacement.

Michael Carrick was initially planning on welcoming Ederson to the United squad when pre-season training begins on 9 July. Now, his arrival will be delayed with Brazil making it to the round of 16.

Manuel Ugarte’s injury means he will also be ruled out of pre-season, while Kobbie Mainoo is with the England squad. United’s midfield options are depleted.

Carrick will have to cope with a very thin midfield department in pre-season, but Nmecha’s early World Cup exit means he could return to training sooner rather than later.

Not only is Nmecha’s style of play ideal for what United need in midfield, but he would also be able to join up with the squad earlier than other targets.

Man United and Felix Nmecha latest update

According to reports in Germany, Nmecha prefers to join United over other interested clubs such as Newcastle United.

Under Ineos, United have not moved for targets unless they prioritise joining the long-term project at Old Trafford. Nmecha has already ticked that box.

Nmecha is valued at £50 million by Borussia Dortmund, and the player has opened the door to a Premier League move.

Now that Nmecha’s World Cup campaign is over, United have a golden opportunity to make their move.
