Manchester United have not only missed out on Marc Cucurella, but his move to Real Madrid could trigger an unwanted domino effect.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano broke the news on Sunday that Real Madrid have struck a €60m deal with Chelsea to sign Marc Cucurella.

United were linked to Cucurella as a left-back target this summer, with Ineos wanting to add competition for Luke Shaw at Old Trafford.

Now, Cucurella is headed to the Bernabeu, and his move to Spain could also have a negative knock-on effect for the Lewis Hall transfer saga.

Man United’s chances of signing Lewis Hall just took a blow

United have made Hall a top target after his impressive breakthrough at Newcastle United.

Reports claim United are in ‘active’ talks for Hall, but the Newcastle defender could cost upwards of £60 million.

Cucurella’s move to Madrid means that Chelsea are now in need of a left-back, and they could now turn their attention to Hall.

Hall was sold by Chelsea in 2024 after spending 12 years with the London club, rising through their academy ranks.

Chelsea will have the funds to pursue Hall after selling Cucurella, and all of a sudden United could be beaten to his signature.

Man United must move quickly for Lewis Hall

The top priority at United is to overhaul the midfield, with talks ongoing for Mateus Fernandes.

But if Ineos put the left-back search on the backburner, then United could miss out on Hall.

Hall is open to joining United, and unlike Chelsea, the Red Devils can offer him Champions League football in 2026/27.

But with Shaw still on the books at United, Hall will have more competition at Old Trafford for a starting spot. Chelsea may be able to guarantee him more regular starts.
