The Premier League-proven strategy of Ineos is set to continue as they’ve identified a Lewis Hall alternative.

The dynamics of the transfer window have already changed for Man Utd as they’ve gone from targeting a LW to being in for a LB now.

Patrick Dorgu is at the heart of his transformation, with his exploits further forward presenting him as an option for the winger spots.

Lewis Hall came into focus as a result, but Newcastle are expected to drive a hard bargain for him, which has resulted in United identifying an alternative.

Man Utd enter Marc Cucurella sweepstakes

Chelsea are an interesting club to watch this transfer window after missing out on European football in the 2025/26 season.

Players like Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella have clearly higher ambitions, and they have already taken shape for Fernandez.

Cucurella could be set to join him soon, and Man Utd will be a part of the race.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Chelsea’s failure to qualify for Europe could see Cucurella available for a cut-price of €40-50m.

United are in the race for his signature, a race which also includes Man City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid.

City are a sleeper pick because of Enzo Maresca’s history with the player, while Barcelona present the homecoming story.

In either case, United’s interest in Cucurella is likely to be a media narrative from the club’s side.

Cucurella interest could be to smoke out Newcastle for Lewis Hall

There is no doubt that Cucurella is a quality player, but this particular link seems to come from a place of handling the narrative rather than any basis in reality.

Omar Berrada has hinted at surprise deals, but Cucurella doesn’t make much sense if he prefers a City or Barcelona move.

There have been concrete links to Lewis Hall, and Newcastle are demanding a king’s ransom, so this could be United’s way of telling the world that they have alternatives.

Cucurella for €40-50m is not a bad deal at all, and even sets a precedent in the market which could soften Newcastle’s stance on Hall.

This is effectively a win-win rumour for United, who can go for Cucurella seriously for that price if he has an interest, or tempt Newcastle into thinking that they won’t pay their asking price for Hall.
