Manchester United’s 3-0 Premier League win over Brighton under Michael Carrick proved that Paul Scholes wrote off one first-team Red Devils star way too soon.
Michael Carrick watched on from the dugout in the Amex for the first time as the permanent Manchester United manager after his permanent appointment last week.
The 44-year-old Red Devils head coach saw Patrick Dorgu make the breakthrough in the first half before Bryan Mbeumo put United 2-0 up against Brighton.
Brighton’s bid to fight back against Man Utd in the second half was met with an early setback after Bruno Fernandes scored only two minutes after the break on Sunday.

How would you RATE Patrick Dorgu’s season for Manchester United?📈
Should he be starting as a winger or full-back next season?
Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt misread Patrick Dorgu and the Man Utd star showed exactly why against Brighton
Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt debated Patrick Dorgu’s role at Old Trafford and the two Manchester United legends were so far off the mark it is not even funny now.
What is even worse for Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes is that their Dorgu remarks came only in April, when the Danish defender was sidelined due to an injury.
Dorgu had already shown his quality for former interim boss Michael Carrick after he had netted for United against both Manchester City and Arsenal back in January.
The only thing that had halted the 21-year-old Denmark international’s momentum was a hamstring injury, which had kept him out of action from January to May.
Scholes claimed that he would “probably sell” Dorgu during one of his podcast episodes with Butt, who was also deeply conflicted about the defender’s best position.

Patrick Dorgu’s performance against Brighton vindicated his bright future ahead of him at Man Utd under Michael Carrick
Carrick had been easing Dorgu back into United first-team action with sporadic cameo appearances before starting him against Brighton at the Amex.
United fans at the Amex — and those watching around the world — noticed the immediate difference in the Red Devils’ attacking set-up with Dorgu involved.
Outside of his stunning header from a Bruno Fernandes corner, Denmark and Red Devils defender Dorgu set up the Man Utd captain in the second half on Sunday.
Dorgu left the pitch after only 62 minutes and was replaced by Shea Lacey, with Carrick ensuring that the winger’s injury setback did not return to haunt him.
The United star’s performance was enough to show the incredible shortcomings of both Scholes and Butt over their premature debate around his role at Old Trafford.
