Michael Carrick puts Patrick Dorgu’s performance vs Brighton in same bracket as two other Man Utd stars’ displays

Michael Carrick singled out Patrick Dorgu from a Manchester United trio after the Denmark international’s stunning display against Brighton on Sunday afternoon.

Patrick Dorgu had a sensational impact in his first two Premier League starts under Michael Carrick back in January after netting against Manchester City and Arsenal.

However, the 21-year-old Danish wing-back, who can play as a full-back or a winger, would suffer a hamstring injury and miss the Red Devils’ subsequent 11 matches.

Dorgu returned to Manchester United first-team action earlier this month and the Red Devils star had been able to pick up important minutes after his injury setback.

Michael Carrick speaks out on Patrick Dorgu, Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo after Man Utd’s win vs Brighton

Patrick Dorgu returned to the starting XI for the final day of the 2025-26 Premier League season and he impressed in Manchester United’s clash with Brighton.

The Denmark star netted in the first half with a superb header before Dorgu picked up an assist in the second half after setting up Bruno Fernandes at the Amex.

Dorgu managed 62 minutes against Brighton on Sunday afternoon before Michael Carrick made the call to withdraw him and replace him with winger Shea Lacey.

Speaking after Man Utd’s 3-0 win over Brighton, Red Devils boss Carrick liked what he saw from Dorgu, Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo at the Amex at the weekend.

“Patrick, especially, it was a massive setback for him at the time when he got injured, but the way he has just got on with it is incredible to think he’s so young still,” he said at his post-match press conference, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“To come back like he did today is great. I have to say, I thought Mason in particular as well, coming [on to play] in midfield, I’m delighted for him, I thought he did ever so well. And Kobbie just keeps improving all the time.”

Michael Carrick on the young talent in his Man Utd first-team squad after the end of the 2025-26 Premier League season

Carrick deployed Mason Mount in midfield in the absence of Brazil star Casemiro, who played his final match for United at Old Trafford against Nottingham Forest.

Mount impressed with his midfield performance at the Amex, while Kobbie Mainoo continued to show his resurgence in form for the Red Devils under manager Carrick.

Speaking on the young talent in his squad, Carrick said: “Yeah, it gives us confidence, without getting carried away and taking anything for granted.

We’ve had a good spell – but I do think, again, experience, I keep repeating myself, but I think especially for the younger players, you can’t put a price on what a season or two in this league and playing for Manchester United, dealing with that and learning and then understanding what it takes to perform really and the boys have shown that.”

The Red Devils ended the season in third place in the Premier League table under Carrick, who was appointed as the permanent United manager last Friday.
