Manchester United enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

The opening goal came in the 33rd minute when Bruno Fernandes delivered a wonderful cross, which was converted by Patrick Dorgu.

United made it 2-0 before the break with a fabulous goal as Amad Diallo squared the ball to Bryan Mbeumo for his 11th goal of the season. It didn’t take United long in the second half to extend their lead following a wonderful strike from Fernandes.

Without further ado, here are five things we learned from the final Premier League game of the season.

What a performance to end the season!

Patrick Dorgu’s impressive record under Michael Carrick continues

Dorgu missed a lot of football in the second half of the season due to a hamstring injury, which came as a blow for United because he was hitting top form in the weeks leading up to it.

However, Dorgu’s goal against the Seagulls made it three goals in as many starts for the Denmark international under Carrick.

The 21-year-old was signed as a left-back, but he’s had much more joy playing further up the pitch as a winger. He was one of United’s main attacking threats against Brighton.

Bruno Fernandes breaks Premier League record

Fernandes’ assist for Dorgu in the first half saw him surpass Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s record by completing more assists in one season than any player in Premier League history.

That means Fernandes finishes the 2025/26 season with 21 assists; a remarkable record that will take some beating.

Fernandes also scored his ninth goal of the season in the early stages of the second half. That means he has contributed a total of 30 goals this season.

Luke Shaw has started every Premier League game this season

Carrick made just three changes to his starting line-up for the final game of the season, but Luke Shaw was one of the players to keep his place in the team.

The England international, who won’t be at the 2026 World Cup, became the only player in the squad to start all 38 of United’s Premier League matches this season.

It’s a remarkable record for Shaw because the experienced left-back has had so many major injury setbacks down the years.

At the age of 30, it could be argued that Shaw has had one of his most consistent campaigns since signing for United in 2014.

Shaw was replaced by Tyrell Malacia in the 81st minute. The Dutch full-back was making his final appearance for the club ahead of his contract expiration.

Carlos Baleba had to settle for substitute cameo

There was no room in Brighton’s starting line-up for United-linked Carlos Baleba.

The Cameroon international was introduced to the midfield battle after 58 minutes.

Baleba tried to show his ball-carrying abilities, but was unable to drive Brighton back into the game.

Still, Baleba gave a good account of himself, carrying out his defensive responsibilities well to break up play.

Shea Lacey and Tyler Fletcher get more minutes in the first team

Shea Lacey replaced Dorgu after the hour mark as the teenager made his first senior appearance since getting sent off against the same opposition in January.

After 73 minutes, Carrick brought on more substitutes, including Tyler Fletcher, who replaced Mason Mount to partner Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the pitch.

Both players will be happy with the minutes they got today and should get more opportunities during pre-season. It remains to be seen if they will be sent out on loan or will remain at the club next season.
