94th minute moment for Man Utd has shown Ruben Amorim the solution to one big problem

Manchester United almost completed a remarkable comeback on Thursday night against Tottenham Hotspur.

At 3-0 down, most teams would consider the game done and dusted but Ruben Amorim refused to give up and it so nearly worked.

It wasn’t until the third Spurs goal went in that Amorim turned to his Manchester United bench, bringing on Amad Diallo and Joshua Zirkzee in the forward line.

Both got a goal as the Red Devils brought the score back to 3-2.

However, Spurs then made it 4-2, making Jonny Evans‘ goal little more than a consolation as United lost the game 4-3.

For Amorim, Altay Bayindir was the problem, costing United two goals. But in the 94th minute, Amorim may have solved one big problem.

Amad Diallo must be on set-pieces from now on for Manchester United

In defeat, Amad was United’s star player as he not only scored his second under Amorim but also grabbed his fifth assist under the Portuguese head coach.

In the 94th minute, Amad – for a change – was put on corner duty and delivered a sublime ball which Evans could not help but convert.

This makes a nice change from the usual delivery of Bruno Fernandes which rarely beats the first defender.

So with Amad demonstrating his ability from set-pieces, perhaps this means Amorim has solved his corner-taking problem.

Amad should be taking them, especially when it will be an inswinger on his left-foot.

Amad is becoming irreplaceable for Ruben Amorim

In Amorim’s short seven games in charge, there has been a recognisable improvement at United which has yet to translate into results.

United outperformed Spurs despite losing, thrashing Ange Postecoglou’s side in terms of expected goals.

Even with losses in the early days of Amorim, there is no panic from fans because we can all see what is happening.

Individual errors and set-piece defending are weaknesses with just 3.66 expected goals being conceded from open play – but 13 conceded which shows some of the howlers our goalkeepers have had.

This shows that Amorim has the team structure perfect and simply needs the errors to stop and the wins will come.

The signs are clear though, United will be good, it’s just a matter of when, not if – but solving who to put on corners is another big problem solved for Amorim.
