10 alternatives for Manchester United if Jadon Sancho move falls through

Jadon Sancho is widely reported to be Manchester United’s top summer transfer target.

But as The Mirror report, a deal could be delayed until next summer with Dortmund digging in over their resolve to keep him

So this leaves questions over who United could sign instead to fill the gap on the right wing.

Here is a look at 10 potential alternative solutions…

Hirving Lozano

Mexico international Lozano was tipped to move to United while he was at PSV Eindhoven, but last summer we sat by and let him join Napoli.

He has had a difficult season in Italy, scoring just twice, in comparison to back to back 17 goal campaigns in the Eredivisie.

A fresh start in England may suit him and his explosive style and eye for goal could make him a hit in the Premier League.

ESPN Mexico recently linked with him United again, with Napoli looking to raise funds. He could be a reasonably priced alternative to Sancho, and at just 24, his best years are still ahead of him.

Dwight McNeil

A move for Burnley’s Dwight McNeil probably wouldn’t satisfy United fan desires for a big name, and rivals fans would probably mock the supposed Sancho to McNeil downgrade.

But that would be grossly unfair on McNeil, who is a talented player in his own right and a former Manchester United trainee.

Only 20, McNeil has racked up 50 Premier League appearances already and 10 assists. He is also an England under-21 international.

McNeil can play on both the left and right, potentially making him an ideal stop-gap addition if the club want a new face and still envision Sancho arriving in 2021.

Ferran Torres

Spanish whizkid Torres is Valencia’s prize asset after he broke into the team and scored four times and provided four assists this season.

Torres has a hefty £87.5 million release clause in his contract (Goal) and clubs across Europe including United are said to be keen.

BILD reported interest from Dortmund, who planned to test the waters with an offer of around £35 million.

This seems cheap, but more reasonable in this market. The German side are a shrewd judge of talent, and Torres is a player who has the capability to reach the top.

Torres is a strong dribbler and this past season he has averaged 1.1 chances created per game. At just 20, he is only going to get even better.

Federico Chiesa

Italian international Federico Chiesa was said last month by The Mail to be attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

The Fiorentina ace, 22, has scored six goals in each of his last three seasons for the club and could benefit from a new challenge.

He has a direct style of play which has made him a fan favourite in Italy, he is willing to take players on, and get crosses in early, and could really help United’s forwards.

This season he is averaging 3.5 shots per game too, showing his determination to get on the scoresheet and impact games.

Kai Havertz

Instead of moving for one £100 million rated player in Sancho, United could simply move for another.

Kai Havertz is the next star of German football and his performances for Bayer Leverkusen have been impossible to ignore.

Havertz can play both as a right winger, or as a central playmaker, and that versatility could even make him an upgrade on Sancho.

This season the 21-year-old has scored 16 goals and provided eight assists.

Lucas Ocampos

Sevilla star Lucas Ocampos has blossomed in La Liga in his first season in Spain following a move from Marseille.

This season the Argentine has struck 11 goals and provided three assists, including a match winning performance against rivals Real Betis last week.

Ocampos is 25 and has proven this season that he is capable of taking the big step up. He could cost a fraction of the Sancho price.

Adama Traore

Wolves winger Traore could be sensational in United’s attack. He is one of the fastest players in the Premier League and is a nightmare for defenders to play against.

At United he could be devastating, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka mopping up defensively behind him, Traore could be unleashed to his full attacking potential.

It would take a big fee to convince Wolves to sell, but United could afford to pay it if money ‘for Sancho’ remains unspent.

At just 24, Traore’s best years are still ahead of him, he knows English football, and he is one of the strongest alternative options for United to Sancho.

David Brooks

Bournemouth attacker David Brooks could be available for a cut-price fee if the Cherries are relegated.

He has not played at all this past season due to injury and United could look to snap him up for far below the £50 million he was once touted for.

Brooks is only 22 and can play across the frontline. He is a big talent who needs to be playing in the Premier League.

It may help that he is a United fan too. He would likely jump at a move if United make an offer.

Leon Bailey

This week United were linked by The Mail with a move for Jamaican star Leon Bailey.

Bailey has played predominantly this season on the left, but in 2018 he told the Bundesliga website that his best position is on the right, giving him the option to cut inside.

A move for Bailey could still leave the door open to a future Sancho deal, given his ability to play on both sides, and at just 22, his best years are ahead.

Wilfried Zaha

Perhaps United could go full circle and bring Wilfried Zaha back to Old Trafford for a second chance?

Zaha previously worked with Solskjaer on loan at Cardiff and the United boss is a big fan.

He is now 27 and needs a new challenge to avoid stagnating at Crystal Palace.

A move back to United would leave him highly motivated to prove a point, where he could also renew a right-sided partnership with Wan-Bissaka.
