Manchester United academy star Tyler Fredricson appears next in line to be given his senior debut by Ruben Amorim.

When Ineos made the decision to hire Ruben Amorim, his record with youth players was one of the major factors that helped him land the job.

Amorim gave 27 debuts at Sporting Lisbon and he has wasted no time putting his faith in Manchester United’s academy this season.

Following United’s incredible 5-4 win over Lyon in the Europa League, Amorim is ready to trust academy stars in the remaining Premier League matches.

United face Wolves on Sunday afternoon and it seems academy defender Tyler Fredricson could be in line to play a part.

Tyler Fredricson is a ‘soldier’ in Man United defence

Amorim’s system relies on three centre-backs who are comfortable in possession and it seems the Portuguese head coach likes what he has seen in Fredricson.

The 20-year-old centre-back is a boyhood Manchester United fan who grew up locally and has been rising through the academy ranks.

As pointed out by StrettyNews, Fredricson has been described as a “soldier” in United’s academy ranks, while he was also hailed as “a smart, disciplined defender who positions himself well”.

At 6’0, he has the physicality to cope with the demands of the Premier League – something Amorim has emphasised recently. His composure in possession should also help the Red Devils to control matches, another of Amorim’s priorities.

Fredricson has been ‘excellent’ for United’s U19s and U21s this season, and it seems his performances at youth level caught Amorim’s eye. He has made 19 appearances across all competitions and has regularly been the captain for the Under-21s this season.

Fredricson signed his pro deal in 2022 under Erik ten Hag, who included him in a Europa League matchday squad against Real Sociedad but never gave him his senior debut.

Under Amorim, Fredricson has been involved in first-team training and, in March, Fredricson was added to United’s Europa League squad.

Back in February, Fredricson was handed the No.55 shirt at United when he was named on the bench to face Tottenham.

Tyler Fredricson was part of Man United’s FA Youth Cup winners

United won the FA Youth Cup in 2022 with an academy side that featured now first-teamers Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Incredibly, Fredricson played a vital role in United’s run to the final but he fell ill on the day of the final so ended up missing out on the Old Trafford showpiece.

He will now aim to follow in the footsteps of Garnacho and Mainoo and try to become a mainstay in Amorim’s first-team squad.

The likes of Ayden Heaven and Godwill Kukonki will provide fierce competition with both defenders also catching Amorim’s attention this season.

With Amorim ready to gamble on playing academy players for the remaining league games this season, Fredricson now has a golden opportunity to put himself in Amorim’s thinking for next season and beyond.
