Manchester United have signed young defender Tyler Fredricson to a professional contract.
Fredricson, 17, was part of Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup winning squad and plays at centre-back.
Tyler Fredricson a top prospect for the future
You can make a case that Tyler Fredricson was Manchester United’s unluckiest young player this past season, after missing the FA Youth Cup final through illness.
He had played every minute of all five games to get United to the final. Louis Jackson stepped in alongside Rhys Bennett as his replacement.
Nonetheless, Fredricson’s contribution to United’s FA Youth Cup win was sizeable, helping the team to keep a clean sheet in the semi-final win at Old Trafford against Wolves.

Prior to this season, Fredricson had not played at all for the under-18s, and he has made the step up comfortably.
Fredricson made 18 appearances in all competitions, including one in the under-19s UEFA Youth League.
The club’s young players were quick to congratulate Tyler Fredricson on his new deal, on Instagram.

The new contract is a show of faith from United, and part of a longer term strategy to secure the futures of the club’s FA Youth Cup stars.
Kobbie Mainoo signed a new contract last week, and The Mail report Alejandro Garncho is also likely to be handed an extension after his ‘dream season‘ in which he made his first team debut.
United also signed 19-year-old midfielder Charlie Savage to a contract extension last week, the club confirmed. He was on the bench for the first team against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
