Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Bryan Mbeumo after weeks of negotiating with Brentford.

It may have taken well over a month to get to this point, but Manchester United agreed a £71m Bryan Mbeumo deal this week, meaning the 25-year-old is set to become the third signing of the summer.

Ruben Amorim wanted Mbeumo signed for the US tour, and it seems the deal could be finalised and announced in time for the Cameroon international to join the travelling squad.

Mbeumo is set to undergo a medical on Saturday before putting pen to paper on a contract until 2030.

He joins Matheus Cunha as a new and exciting attacking signing, but Rio Ferdinand believes he is going to bring so much more than just goals to Amorim’s squad.

Rio Ferdinand raves about Bryan Mbeumo’s attitude

Before a deal was agreed with Brentford, Ferdinand was urging United to sign Mbeumo this summer, suggesting he was a perfect signing for Amorim.

Ferdinand is a big admirer of Mbeumo, hailing him as a “dynamic” and “aggressive” player during his time at Brentford.

Speaking on his podcast Rio Ferdinand Presents, he also pointed out that he has heard great things about Bryan Mbeumo’s attitude and work rate.

“I know a couple of guys who have trained with him in the season, outside of the club, and said that his attention to detail, his work ethic, how he takes care of himself – it’s at the highest order,” Ferdinand said.

“They’re the type of people you want in the training ground as well. But that’s a culture, bringing that into this environment, them good traits and good habits he’s got, can only bode well for the group.

“You hope that it’s something that feeds off into others if some aren’t doing it.”

Ruben Amorim needs strong characters at Man United

United fans have seen plenty of big-money signings fail to handle the pressure of being a United player, and now Mbeumo will be in the spotlight.

There is huge pressure on Amorim and United heading into 2025/26 given the hugely disappointing results last season, and Mbeumo and Cunha will be expected to hit the ground running.

Amorim has targeted experienced Premier League players this summer window, and Mbeumo will hope to maintain the level he was at last season when he scored 20 Premier League goals.

Within the first few months of Amorim’s tenure, fans have already seen him push aside talented players who he believes are not good for the dressing room environment. Five players have been banished from training so that they do not impact pre-season preparations.

Amorim needs players he can trust to work hard and give everything to his rebuilding project, and it seems that Mbeumo will help to maintain high standards around Carrington.
