Manchester United took six weeks to finalise the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford this summer.

It was a transfer saga that boiled up frustration and anxiety within the Manchester United fanbase, but supporters can finally celebrate a third major signing of the summer.

United paid £65m for Bryan Mbeumo up front, with an additional £5m paid in add-ons. The fee will be spread over four years to lessen the impact on this summer’s budget.

Mbeumo is delighted to join United after making it blindingly clear that he wanted to move to Manchester this summer. It wasn’t made easy by Brentford, who repeatedly changed their valuation.

But Ineos stuck to their task and now Mbeumo is United’s new No.19.

Man United chiefs accept Bryan Mbeumo sacrifice

United fans questioned Ineos throughout the Bryan Mbeumo saga, many wondered why it was taking so long while others grew concerned at the fee being paid.

But the new-look executive team, which includes Jason Wilcox as director of football, did achieve what they set out to do: Bring Mbeumo to Old Trafford.

According to The Athletic, those close to United privately accept that the club have paid at the top end of Mbeumo’s value.

However, a decision was made to pay a total £71m package because of “Amorim’s need for immediate impact” and “the general market for Premier League forwards”.

In a window where the Premier League has seen a £52m deal for Noni Madueke, a £55m deal for Anthony Elanga and a £79m deal for Hugo Ekitike, the fee paid for Mbeumo was considered worthwhile.

Ineos delivered Bryan Mbeumo by Ruben Amorim’s deadline

United may have paid towards the top end of Mbeumo’s valuation, but it was important that the 25-year-old was signed early this summer.

A 0-0 draw against Leeds United kickstarted the 2025 pre-season schedule, but now the Red Devils are set to fly out to the United States to participate in the Premier League Summer Series.

Amorim wanted Mbeumo to join the US tour, so Ineos were given a strict deadline to get the deal done before the squad flies out.

Now that Mbeumo has been confirmed, he is expected to be part of Amorim’s travelling squad.

It means Mbeumo will likely make his United debut this weekend when United face West Ham in New Jersey on July 27.
