Bruno Fernandes is a brilliant captain for Manchester United and his actions this summer have proven it.

The Portuguese midfielder is heading into his seventh season as a Manchester United player and is certainly on the cusp of becoming a club legend.

At the age of 30, the Portugal international is the club captain, following on from a long line of legends at the club, with Bruno Fernandes a trophy or two away from joining them.

Fernandes had an incredible 2024/25 season for United almost single handedly helping the club avoid a relegation fight with his 19 goals and 19 assists.

While not everybody agrees with his class, Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand say Fernandes would play in their United team, which is a huge compliment.

Fernandes rejected life changing wages in Saudi Arabia this summer to further establish himself as a club legend.

Now, Matheus Cunha has revealed the actions Fernandes took to welcome him to Old Trafford, further showing the captain’s class.

Bruno Fernandes welcomed Matheus Cunha to Manchester United

Manchester United signed Matheus Cunha in June, bringing the Brazilian in as the first major signing of the summer, bringing Premier League proven goals and assists.

Cunha has settled in very quickly, impressing fans and those around Carrington in his first few weeks at the club. Cunha also looked exciting on his debut against Leeds.

Now, Cunha has been discussing his start to life at United on MUTV, in an interview with Liam Bradford, who told the forward that he heard about how Fernandes welcomed him to the club.

“I live in a place called Bramall in Stockport and I got a text message the other day saying that ‘Bruno’s taken Matheus out for breakfast’, sat in the place I go for breakfast, was your breakfast good?”, Bradford asked.

Cunha then responded, “It was good”, the Brazilian laughed.

“[It’s always great] to spend time with these kind of guys, Bruno for example is someone who has helped me a lot and he still helps me, there are a lot of things to learn but yeah it is nice to spend time together, it is something very good.”

Taking new signings out for breakfast is such a class move from Fernandes and shows exactly why he is the captain.

Manchester United have ready-made Fernandes replacement in Cunha

For all of Cunha’s incredible ability on the ball, he also brings massive benefits in terms of his attitude and character, which is probably very similar to Fernandes.

Both are aggressive, passionate and natural leaders, with Cunha being compared to Eric Cantona by Wayne Rooney, which is a big compliment.

Cunha had worn the Wolves armband on various occasions and so far at United has spoken well, and became a popular figure very quickly within the squad.

Due to these qualities Cunha has, he could be the ready-made replacement as captain for United once Fernandes departs, which could be in the next year or two.
