Man Utd’s new elite trio could be the envy of the Premier League, they have set high bar already

Manchester United had a lot of issues last season, but the biggest and most obvious was a clear lack of quality at the top end of the pitch.

For too long, Manchester United have effectively been a one man team, with Bruno Fernandes doing it all on his own.

Fernandes won United’s player of the year last season, for the fourth time in his five years at the club, which shows how brilliant he has been, but also how badly let down he has been by his teammates.

Over the course of the campaign, Fernandes tallied up 19 goals and 19 assists in all competitions, which is a surreal amount in a team that finished 15th in the league, alongside teammates who couldn’t finish chances all season.

Being so excellent, if United had more than one Fernandes, surely it would entirely change their fortunes, and now that might very well be the case.

Manchester United now have three of the top five performers from last season in Premier League

Coming into the summer, it was clear that United needed to strengthen in the attack and add players who are of a similar quality to Fernandes.

Now, in mid-July and United have ticked this box.

United signed Matheus Cunha on July 1st, immediately upgrading the attack, and then this week has seen United agree to sign Bryan Mbeumo.

These are seen as two elite pick-ups, and combined with Fernandes, it sees United now possess three of last season’s five best performers in the Premier League, as showcased by SofaScore.

As a trio, United have one of the best groups of three in the league, and for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson, the club boasts a trio which would be the envy of the rest of the league.

Last season, these three had a combined 90 goal contributions last season (56 goals and 34 assists), and if they manage this again, it would signal that United are having an excellent season.

It is very exciting, but Ineos needs to ensure that the support staff around them is also up to scratch.

Bryan Mbeumo fee compared with other Premier League signings

The improvements to United’s attack will be immeasurable next season, and even Rasmus Hojlund will likely benefit and improve thanks to the players around him.

However, despite the deals being excellent for United, there has been some criticisms over the price that Mbeumo has cost. But when compared to other Premier League winger signings, it becomes clear that Mbeumo may end up a bargain.

Noni Madueke73£52m
Mohammed Kudus53£55m
Bryan Mbeumo207£65m
Matheus Cunha156£62m

When compared to how much other attackers have cost this summer in the Premier League, Brentford’s demands are more than reasonable, and really, United’s two signings were excellent value in this market.

Mbeumo had more goals than all three of those other forwards combined and also more assists than Madueke and Kudus combined.
