Manchester United are playing like a team who believe again, after winning three of the last four games and drawing the other.

Manchester United made light work of Leicester City during the team’s 3-0 victory, scoring two goals in the first half and adding a third late.

Bruno Fernandes scored one, and had another credited to him before it was officially awarded as an own goal.

Fernandes’ confidence is flying after breaking his duck for the season, he is now up to four goals for the campaign, all scored under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Fernandes enjoying his football again

Bruno Fernandes had a frustrating start to the season, from the first game when his finishing let him down in the home win over Fulham.

Following matches saw him hit the woodwork, and even pick up two red cards, one of which was rescinded.

Against Leicester he delivered a tireless performance, creating seven goalscoring chances during the match, getting his assist for Amad’s goal; his seventh of the season.

Best of all, Fernandes was playing with a smile on his face, as if all the pressure had been lifted by finding his way back onto the scoresheet once again.

He has now overtaken Eric Cantona on Manchester United’s all-time top scorers list to move to 83.

This came on a special day, with Fernandes making his 250th appearance for the club, presented with a special plaque before kick-off by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Fernandes work rate set the standard

Fernandes is Manchester United’s captain, and delivered a performance worthy of a leader.

Former United academy star Danny Webber picked out the way Fernandes was working off the ball late in the game, with United already 3-0 up.

He told MUTV: “Obviously the goals were the cherry on top, it was the performance as a whole.

“Both attacking, defending, watching him win it in the 85th minute, close the goalkeeper down and try and urge everybody forward.

“He’s a serious driver behind two goals and an assist, who’s at the heart of everything that was productive, that’s why.

“That’s what he does as the captain of his football club.”

Webber added that Fernandes’ form will make a big difference to him as Ruben Amorim prepares to take charge.

“He’ll be happy he’s playing with the freedom going into the new era. He can continue this, and he can obviously be at the centre of it all.”

“You know when you look at a captain, you want them to obviously wear the badge of pride. You want them to be a great example. But more than that, as you said, you know the passion that he has for the fans.

“He wants these wins, not just for him, the players, the coach and staff. He wants it for the fans here.”
