Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney has rated one Red Devils signing over Liverpool striker Alexander Isak and attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz.
Both Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak arrived at Anfield as part of Liverpool’s record-breaking £446m summer spending spree for Arne Slot’s Red Devils squad.
Manchester United’s fierce rivals splashed out a then club-record transfer fee of £116m to sign the 22-year-old Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in June.
Liverpool’s deal for Germany international Wirtz would be eclipsed only months later after the Reds smashed the British record transfer fee for Alexander Isak.
Isak was linked with United in the past and the 26-year-old former Newcastle striker left St James’ Park and completed an eye-watering £125m transfer to Anfield.

Wayne Rooney reveals ratings for Man Utd star Bryan Mbeumo and Liverpool duo Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz
Alexander Isak has only netted once and registered once in eight matches for the Reds since his deadline-day move to the defending Premier League champions.
Florian Wirtz, much like Isak, has struggled to make an impact for Liverpool and the German has not scored, but he has three assists to his name in 15 appearances.
Speaking to Amazon Prime Video, Wayne Rooney was asked to review summer signings from different Premier League clubs on a five-star rating scale.
Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer rated Liverpool striker Isak and Red Devils attacking midfielder with two stars out of five in his ratings.
Bryan Mbeumo, on the other hand, earned high praise from Rooney after the former Brentford star received an impressive rating of four stars out of five.
Bryan Mbeumo scored a high rating from Wayne Rooney, but what did the Man Utd legend say about Benjamin Sesko?
Bryan Mbeumo has been a standout performer for United since his big-money move from Brentford, with the Cameroon international impressing for Ruben Amorim.
The 26-year-old French-born attacker has netted five times across all competitions and picked up an assist in 11 matches for the Red Devils in the 2025-26 season.
United signed Mbeumo in July after Brentford accepted a third bid for the Cameroon winger before the Red Devils turned their attention to Benjamin Sesko in August.
Benjamin Sesko has had a slower start to life at Old Trafford and the 22-year-old Slovenia striker only received a two out of five rating from United legend Rooney.
The former RB Leipzig forward has only scored twice and registered an assist in 11 matches across all competitions for United in the current campaign.
