Wayne Rooney’s passionate rant on Man Utd shows how much the Premier League club now means to the boyhood Everton fan
The Brentford result at the Gtech Community Stadium marked United’s third Premier League defeat of the 2025-26 season in their opening six league matches.
United manager Ruben Amorim has only managed two Premier League wins in the current campaign and the Red Devils are currently 14th in the league table.
Speaking after the Premier League defeat on the weekend, Rooney showed his true hurt over United’s poor run of form by linking it to his prolific history at Old Trafford.
“I never grew up a Man Utd fan,” he continued.
“I grew up an Everton fan. But I spent that much time at the football club [Man United].”
United’s all-time leading scorer added: “Me family, me two children [are] now at the football club. I’ve been involved in that club [for] over 20 years and what we’re seeing hurts.
“Only my eldest boy has seen Man United win a Premier League title. Me youngest, second boy is nearly 13.
“My kids don’t know what Man United is being successful. I want them to see that. Yeah, so I could go on all day.”
United will now play Premier League side Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon in their final match ahead of the October international break.
