Wayne Rooney dropped an eye-opening verdict on his close interaction with one Manchester United-linked manager amid the uncertainty around Ruben Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim has now seen his future at the Premier League club plunged into doubt after Manchester United’s underwhelming start to the new season under him.

The 40-year-old United manager has only picked up two Premier League wins from the Red Devils’ opening six league matches from the 2025-26 campaign.

United have not won back-to-back Premier League matches under Amorim since the former Sporting CP manager arrived at Old Trafford last November.

Amorim already experienced one major setback in August after United’s humiliating defeat to Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup at Blundell Park.

However, the Red Devils head coach found himself once again under the spotlight after United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Brentford hosted Manchester United at the Gtech Community Stadium and the Bees secured all three Premier League points against a lacklustre Red Devils side.

The mounting pressure around Ruben Amorim has intensified speculation around Ineos potentially axing the under-fire United manager from Old Trafford.

Oliver Glasner has been subject to the United rumblings in recent weeks and the Crystal Palace manager has impressed with his work at the Eagles.

Wayne Rooney has said that he has met United-linked Oliver Glasner and revealed that it stood out to him how authentic the Crystal Palace boss is as a person.

“I’ve met him a couple of times,” he explained on BBC Sport’s The Wayne Rooney Show.

“I just think he’s a genuine person. And I don’t think it’s just down to him.

“I think the club, I think what they’ve done, Crystal Palace, over the past 10 years, I think they’ve recruited really well.

“And I think it goes down to where they’re bringing players from, bringing players who are hungry, the desire, who’ve got something to gain and got something to look forward to and fight and they’re bringing players from the street.

“Crystal Palace over the last 10 years has reminded me of a street football club.”

Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney on Oliver Glasner and his future at Crystal Palace after his impact at Selhurst Park

Oliver Glasner has earned high praise for his work at Premier League side Crystal Palace after the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager replaced Roy Hodgson.

The 51-year-old defied the odds and secured major silverware for the Eagles last season after Palace’s sensational 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Glasner’s long-term future at Selhurst Park remains uncertain, with the former Wolfsburg head coach being out of contract with Palace next summer.

United legend Rooney has suggested that it will be “very difficult” for Palace to keep hold of the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss after his impact at the Eagles.

“[…] But what I think they’ve got now is a manager who knows how to win, knows how to win trophies,” he added.

“He’s done it in different countries. He’s done it in England with the FA Cup. I think it’s going to be very difficult for Palace to keep him.”

Palace are currently third in the Premier League table under Glasner this season and the Eagles have not lost once in their opening six league matches.
