Manchester United are blessed with a number of top talents in the academy, who may need to show a little patience.

Manchester United’s lack of European football combined with an early Carabao Cup exit has meant there is minimal chance for Ruben Amorim to rotate his squad.

Kobbie Mainoo is struggling for game time, and so is Ayden Heaven, who has played only three league minutes all season.

Meanwhile United’s under-21 side and under-18s team are both unbeaten and top of the table in their respective leagues.

There is an overflow of talent hoping to get into the first team mix.

Shea Lacey and Jack Fletcher make impression

Manchester United’s young stars are performing at a high level, with Chido Obi and Jayden Kamason scoring in a recent under-21 win over Liverpool.

But according to The Mail, it was Shea Lacey and Jack Fletcher who have really come on strong behind the scenes.

The report states that the pair have impressed Amorim’s coaching staff during first team training sessions.

“Confidential has been told Jack Fletcher and Shea Lacey both left a lasting impression on Amorim and his staff in the past week.”

Lacey and Fletcher competing for crowded spots

United In Focus reported a week ago how the club feel that Shea Lacey will soon be ready for first team football.

The Mail’s report shows how Lacey has continued to impress behind the scenes since then, and is putting himself into the mix.

Lacey, 18, is an England youth international who played for Manchester United on the club’s postseason tour.

His progress in the academy has been delayed by a succession of injuries, after he scored his first under-18s goal at just 15.

Jack Fletcher is also an attacking midfielder, son of former United star Darren Fletcher, and his twin brother Tyler Fletcher is also making good progress.

Both Lacey and Fletcher have made an impact at under-21 level, but the challenge for both of them is that they are competing for very crowded positions.

If you class Bruno Fernandes as a central midfielder, there is still Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount, Amad and Joshua Zirkzee competing for two attacking midfield positions.

Lacey and Fletcher’s best bet this side of January is to hope for a token appearance off the bench or two. For now, they are doing all they possibly can.
